It burns into your heart The darkness that you fear You were never free And you never realized And love is a word You never heard Your heart ain't cold, 'cause it burns A desire to leave the mire
Another late night, burning the midnight oil. The clock was reaching around to one in the morning. He sat at his desk, a cup of coffee in his right hand. Paper work scattered around his desk. More missing person’s reports. Just this morning, he had put a missing persons watch out on a runaway from home. It had been more then 24 hours. It bothered him that he couldn’t be of anymore help to the family. This was his current life. He put in more hours into this job, even when he should have been at home. Home seemed like a dream. He barely knew the meaning of that word. The police station was his home-- his sanctuary in a world were order was needed. He provided the law, and expected others to follow it. Regardless if those following the law tended to be mortal or supernatural. Faith, and his partner tended to be those that established the law in this city. Although, he had only lived in this city for fifteen years and worked as an officer of the law for ten-- he still felt an obligation to do the right thing. That was his moral compass, it showed him how to do things the right way. Being apart of the police department, was like having a second family. Something that the Order of Light in Russia couldn’t provide. It was like being back in the fold. The police department gave him a reason to carry on. Even with his lycanthropy, the wolf crawling deep down inside. The police station calmed Faith. As he looked at the scattered papers, he took a sip of his black coffee. After that, he sighed softly.
How many people went missing in the city? It was unknown. It just meant that he had to work harder then usual. Faith lead a pretty private life, but he had close friends. It was because of them, that Faith would do anything within his power to oversee something right. Friends, were something that he didn’t have in the past. He had family, but they turned against him when he was bitten. Years of hunting was hardwired into his genetics. Although, the laws kept him in check. He never killed without a reason. He could do it, but always hesitated. He wasn’t about to go out, and begin killing creatures at random. Faith, obeyed the law. Only killing, when a creature was far to dangerous for the general public. Not to mention the tension between the factions. The vampires, and lycans were all on edge. Whispers of war amongst the different factions. Faith kept an open ear, but he wouldn’t pick a side. Anyone that killed for senselessness in his city, would be punished to the fullest extend of the law. It was the only thing that separated them from going into full chaos, and disorder. Law was his way of life, and lawlessness would be punished. War or not, Faith would do what he deemed to be right. Pointless killing would lead him into fighting for the defenseless.
He sighed softly, as he gazed over the papers. He took a second sip of his coffee. It slithered down his throat. The runaway was still at large. It bothered him, greatly. He could relate to being out on his own. He had traveled, and seen the world change. The gift of immortality, but seeing the people around you age-- was hard enough. He kept living, and kept adapting to new situations. Living meant that he had to change with the times. Although, one thing remained certain. He needed to find a cure to his condition. It was rumored to exist, but it was merely a legend. Faith kept his humanity as a priority. It being the only thing that separated him from other lycans. Faith was abnormal, for being a lycan. He hadn’t been natural born werewolf. That was another factor, which separated him from his animal side. The night was barely going by. He still had a lot to do. He sat down, and looked about the police department from his office. Barely anyone was around. He and his partner were suppose to talk, but she seemed to be doing her own thing. When they had assigned him a new partner, he’d been hesitate about it. However, a friendship between him and his new partner had flourished. Of course, she had proven herself on many occasions. Faith was lucky to have someone as resourceful as her on his side. With her help, they had recently solved a murder investigation. They brought a serial killer to justice. Even though the man was just a mortal, it still surprised Faith how ruthless regular people could be. Five people slaughtered, it was a problem. The cities growing crimes never seemed to change Faith’s view points. He would always be a man of the law.
Then something caught his attention. Slowly, he lifted his head from the paper work. Someone was standing in the doorway. A smirk crossed his lips, and he spoke calmly, “Well, I was wondering when you’d get back.” That was one of Faith’s winning qualities, he always remained calm, and determined. It was rare that the lycan ever got angry or frustrated with others. Years of training by himself had changed him. The police force had changed him also. It bettered his temperament, and showed him the right pathway. His hunting and tracking skills also helped out. All of them, could be useful resources to take into consideration. So, he kept the smirk on his face, which remained stationary.

tocallitcourage* fault lines tremble underneath my glass house but i put it out of my mind long enough to call it courage, to live without a lifeline. i bend the definition of faith to exonerate my blind eye. 'til the sirens sound i'm safe,, Lately, Adrianna Riley could say without hesitation that her life had become the very definition of the word "unexpected."It was safe to say she'd never expected to fall in love with a vampire - then again, she hadn't expected to fall in love at all, not after what happened to Drew. Her former partner had been the woman's first real, true love, and the way it ended ... Adrianna still harbored some blame, and believed she truly always would. The people close to her would always be at risk when it came to her job. Drew got too close to the case. Maybe if she told him about what the case truly entailed, about the vampire, supernatural aspects, maybe he would have let her handle it on her own. Maybe he would have known to step back. Deep down, though, Adrianna knew nothing could've kept him from putting his life on the line for the job. Even circumstances that involved more supernatural aspects. But life kept moving, and with it, Adrianna slowly allowed herself the chance to move on, truly move on. She'd fallen in love again, this time with a vampire, but she didn't think twice about that. Joel Grayson had come into her life and brought a light back into it. All of a sudden Ade found herself smiling more easily and more often, and she knew it was because of him. The young halfbreed had fallen in love, and she knew she'd follow that love anywhere. The universe threw one more twist her way, though, and that twist was starting to become visible in the form of a baby bump in her shirt. Only recently did Ade find out she was pregnant, and the news came as a shock for a number of reasons - one, she found out because her boyfriend could hear the baby's heartbeat. Two, well, Adrianna had never pictured herself as a mother. From the beginning, Adrianna devoted her life to her work on the police force. And from the beginning she was perfectly content with that. She loved that she was following in her dad's footsteps. Ever since she was a kid he'd been like a superhero to her, and she fell asleep easily every night knowing he was out there keeping people safe. He was the reason Adrianna became a police officer in the first place, and she liked to think maybe she was making a difference the same way he had. If she would have ended up dedicating her life to the police force, she figured it wouldn't be a bad life at all. Things changed, though. Now she was about to be a mom, to have a family of her own. And, if she was being totally honest, it scared the hell out of her. But it was a good kind of scared, for the most part at least."Scared" was something she never really admitted to being to other people. Maybe it was a pride thing. Even though she knew fearless was an impossible goal, it was something she'd always strive to be. She wanted to be brave, but Adrianna could admit that everything from staring down the barrel of a criminal's gun to high speed chases to kidnapping investigations ... Nothing scared her quite like motherhood. She worried about a lot of things - what if she was an awful mother? What if she was too protective, too harsh? What if her career put any children in danger? It was a constant flowing of questions and fears, but Adrianna's support system was strong in this situation. She had her family, had her friends at the station, and of course she had Joel. There was no one else in the world she'd want to do this with besides him, that much was for certain.Of course, with pregnancy came morning sickness (which for some reason only seemed to happen at night, much to Adrianna's annoyance) and with that came spending a good portion of her shift at the station with her head in the toilet. Adrianna was in the bathroom, washing up after losing most of her dinner from another morning sickness spell. "Note to self - baby does not like leftover chicken stir fry," she muttered to herself, washing her hands and wiping off her face before she made her way out of the bathroom. Her face was still a little pale, but she pushed her queasiness aside as she pulled he dark curls into a ponytail, making her way towards the familiar office of her partner - her new partner, Faith Blackfeather. The two of them were assigned as partners shortly after Drew's death, and while Adrianna had fought against the transition at first, by now she was okay with it. Better than okay, actually. She and Faith worked well together, and he was as dedicated as she was to the job. They'd made a good team so far, and he'd proven to make an especially good friend. She chewed her lip before knocking on the door to his office, poking her head into the room and giving him a warm, friendly smile in response to his words. "Faith," she greeted lightly as she stepped inside, making herself at home and taking a seat across from him at his desk. "Sorry I'm late - I haven't been feeling the best today." Well, she wasn't lying there. Since their most recent successful case that ended with them catching a serial killer, things seemed to have slowed down at the station. Adrianna's attention had shifted back to a case that had been haunting her for years - the same case that ended Drew's life. So far there were no new leads, no similar deaths popping up that followed the pattern that mirrored suicides. That was one case she'd never put to rest, no matter how cold it became."What was it you wanted to talk about? The runaway?" she asked, tilting her head curiously, figuring he must have found a lead with the case. The scent of the coffee was overwhelmingly strong - another side effect of the pregnancy, no doubt, but at least this smell didn't make her feel nauseous. She wrinkled her nose a bit regardless though, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear. tagged: FAITH BLACKFEATHER // lyrics: sleeping at last // notes: i've also owed you this forever and i'm veryvery sorry it took so long ._.' but yayayay partners!! Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue thought I heard you talking softly I turned on the lights the TV and the radio but still I can't escape the ghost of you
What is happening to me crazy some would say Where is the life that I recognize, gone away
And I won't cry for yesterday there's an ordinary world somehow I have to find And as I try to make my way to the ordinary world I will learn to survive
Time, it was all that he seemed to have. Immortality, he lived, yet others were subjected to the fatalities of death. Faith, didn’t worry about death. It would find him in time. He’d seen the world changed, and adapted with it. After all, he was a lycan. He was starting to figure that with his immortality, he could use it for the benefit of mankind. After all, the law was important. Without the stability of law, the world would be thrown into complete chaos. Lawlessness was something that caused a great burden, for Faith. He had seen the underbelly of society, having once been a hunter himself. Even after he was exiled by the Order of light, he still used his skills. He never stopped hunting, until around fifteen years ago. It was only ten years ago, that he joined the police force. Everything changed, once he could bring his ideals to the forefront; Faith, had always been a man that existed in order to keep the balance in place. Without balance, what was the point? Even now, Faith still believe in fighting for a higher power. He had been raised by the church. His father had been an elder in the Order. It was Faith in his youth, that wound up getting his father killed. Suffice to say, he wasn’t reckless anymore. Those days were behind him. He had come of age, and matured into the man that Charity, and Ava now saw.
Apart of himself, wanted to share his past with Ade. However that conversation was for private ears. Ade, was different. Faith knew from her scent. Something was special about her, and he was the luckiest person to be blessed with an amazing partner, and good friend. It had taken some time, for Faith to open up. At first, he had been against getting another partner outside of Daniel, but Ade proved to be a resourceful partner. Only a month ago, they had captured and ended the nightmare of a serial killer on the loose. It was administering justice, that Faith lived for. Like running in wolf form, justice was the other half of his existence. For those that didn’t know Faith, he could be very reserved, nice, but reserved. He tended to think about the past more often then he liked, and he daydreamed about the future. He thought, about what the outcome would be.
As Ade sat down, Faith merely took a sip of his black coffee. It slithered down his throat, leaving a warm sensation. It was late into the night, but he never accounted anything for time. Work, after all, was work. If he didn’t do it, then who would? Gentle, brown hues gazed at his friend and partner. Softly, he spoke, his voice was warm and gentle, “Yes. The runaway has been bothering me.”, he motioned his hand at the paper work on his desk. He cleared his throat, “However, I’ve noticed a pattern,” His eyes transitioned back the paper work. “This isn’t the first runaway. The other officers found a body. Only difference was, the body was mauled. From what looks like an animal attack.” He sighed softly, after finishing the sentence. The strange part, wasn’t strange to Faith. It had occurred during a full moon. Lycan attacks, were getting more commonplace in the city. Just the other night, Faith had undergone the transformation, However, he shifted away from the public eye. Deep within the woods, were it would be unlikely he’d encounter people. In the past, he had lost control during the transformation, and attacked people. He had an enormous amount of blood on his hands. Luckily, he killed his victims, sparing them the agony of becoming what he was.
He took another sip of his coffee, glancing at the paper work. So much of it had crossed his desk. He would have to break the bad news to the family. That was the part of the job, which tormented the lycan. Being the bearer of bad news. The victim had been dragged off into the woods. The body had been torn into ribbons, which Faith knew all to well. It was a brutal crime. Faith, didn’t get into the technical information. He sighed softly, eyes shifting back to Ade. “I’m going to have to break the bad news.” Calmly, he continued, “This is part of the job that I dislike. I sometimes feel like, we could do more. If only we could stop these things before they happen, but we’re only human in the end.” Although, Faith still could only do mortal things. He was a lycan, but he still kept a hold on his humanity. Faith was a supernatural creature, living in an ordinary world-- for some. Softly, he spoke to himself. “We are merely sparks in the dark.”

tocallitcourage* fault lines tremble underneath my glass house but i put it out of my mind long enough to call it courage, to live without a lifeline. i bend the definition of faith to exonerate my blind eye. 'til the sirens sound i'm safe,, There weren't many people out there who Adrianna could wholeheartedly say she trusted. However, though the list itself was short Faith was still on it. They'd worked together long enough now that Adrianna trusted he'd have her back, regardless of the situation. The only detail about herself that she couldn't bring herself to reveal to him yet was, well, exactly what she was. She could sense Faith wasn't mortal, not just in her wiccan instincts, but in his eyes. They were much older than someone in their twenties or thirties would be, something shaped by many years of living as an immortal being. But until she knew what he was, or if he would view her as a sort of threat when he found out what she herself was, she had kept her wiccan half under wraps.
Ade listened to Faith's words as he motioned to the paperwork, her heart dropping a bit at the mention of an animal attack style mauling. She took note of the date, recognizing that it was on a night of or near the full moon. She frowned softly, nodding at the file. "Mind if I take a closer look at this?" she asked, already reaching for it as her dark eyes skimmed the report. Ade had a tendency to take on cases that held a more supernatural quality, or at least ones that potentially had supernatural components to them. Her dad had been the same back in the day - in fact, it was how he met her mother. Ade followed in her dad's footsteps joining the police force, and she followed them further by trying to protect the world from what it wasn't quite ready to know existed yet. And she did her best to do that, to both protect people and make the people she cares about proud of her, especially her father.
She chewed softly on her lip when her eyes landed on the details of the girl’s injuries, the extent of the damage gruesome enough that she found her hand instinctively going towards her stomach, barely swollen with the pregnancy. When Faith mentioned going to tell the woman’s family her heart clenched within her chest. She always tried to put herself in the position of the various families she herself had to break this type of news to, tried to empathize to ensure she’d know what to say, how to approach such a sensitive topic. But now that she was about to become a mother, she could recognize that type of pain for what it really was. Her hand lingered on her stomach, not even wanting to imagine what it would be like to lose a child, especially in such a gruesome way. She set the file back down, chewing softly on her lip before she looked up at her partner again.
“I could go with you, if you want that is,” she offered with a faint but sad smile. “It might make it a little easier.” Adrianna’s gaze shifted as Faith continued, the “only human” part causing her to bite her lip. Assuming he was something, well, something not mortal, she had a feeling he could tell the same about her. She tucked her hair back, folding her hands on the desk as she looked at him. “Sometimes ‘only human’ is more than enough. Humanity is the best thing we can hold on to. Without it, we end up like the monsters we’ve devoted our lives to putting behind bars.” Humans could be monsters, and the creatures many considered monsters had more compassion than some humans. Species, Adrianna had learned in her life, was not an indication of what a monster was. She’d seen more darkness staring into the eyes of the mortals they brought in than she did in vampires and lycans. People like Joel, and possibly like Faith if her suspicions were correct, were good everyday reminders of that for her, of the good in the supernatural.
His words brought another tiny smile to her lips as she looked up again. Her mistake with her last partner had been the secrets – the secret of what she was, the secret of what the last case they took together was all about. This time around, she didn’t want any secrets, and after all this time she knew she could trust Faith with the whole truth. She glanced about the office before she looked at him again. “I’ve been meaning to talk with you about something – but this conversation is probably meant for a more private setting.” You never knew who was listening when you worked at a police station. “If you haven’t taken a break yet, would you mind walking somewhere with me?” She looked at the file again, the young woman torn into ribbons by what she knew must have been a lycan’s claws. “I think you and I both know there’s more to this case than meets the eye.” She looked at him. Adrianna would learn from her past mistakes this time. This time around, no one was going to get hurt because of secrets.

Did anyone survive? I swear I heard your voice beyond this side Does anyone still try? Does anyone still hope to set their eyes beyond this place?
So much needed to be discussed. Like a shadow, finally lifting. Intuition told Faith that his partner was aware of what he was. Insight, showed him that she was not completely mortal either. They both had secrets, but he wanted to ensure that honest remained between them. Faith knew, and felt that it was time to have a conversation about everything going on. After all, he was a werewolf-- working within the police force for the greater good. Even during full moons, he made sure not to take the flesh of innocent lives. He transformed away public eye, keeping those around him safe. Patiently, he listened to Ade, and nodded his head in agreement. Quickly, he took another sip of his coffee, finishing the black liquid that had finally gone cold. His eyes shifted back the paper work, and he sighed softly. “I think a break is needed. We have much to discuss. A few things that I want to get off my chest. Things, that have been weighing heavily on my mind for some time.”
He knew that he could trust her. They had plenty of good times together. Ade was practically his best friend. She kept him level headed, and focused on the horizon. Faith, by all means was a good man. Even after being exiled from his home, after being bitten by a werewolf. He still remained lawful. Even when hunting, he only killed those that poised a threat to humanity. Faith, wanted to preserve the mortal world. He had friends, who were supernatural. His closet friend, outside of the police department was a Wiccan, and his love interest was a vampire. He knew another werewolf. Faith saw good in the supernatural community. So many open minded individuals. He couldn’t dispute the fact that some wanted war amongst the communities. That was the reason, for why Faith never bothered to affiliate with a pack. Firsthand, he couldn’t understand them-- plus he didn’t want to get dragged into the conflict. It was something that he avoided, but this was still his city. He expected the law to be enforced to the highest level.
Automatically, he stood. He motioned with his hand for Ade to follow. Gently, he placed his right hand on her closet shoulder. He offered her a warm smile, something that he offered all of his closet friends. Calmly, he spoke. “Well, lead the way.” He stood motionless, and waited for Ade to show him the way. He was lucky to know someone like her, after she had lost her partner-- the entire police family felt it. Of course, it impacted Faith as well. The force lost a good detective, and Faith remembered the funeral. A sadness had overwhelmed the entire department. Of course, at the time, he didn’t know Ade at all. They worked the same department, but rarely talked. Her partners death, and brought them closer together. For that, Faith was extremely thankful. Life was short, but for Faith, immortality came with a cost. He’d work for the department for ten years. Lot’s of time for him to take root. He was a good officer, and well respected by his fellow officers, including the police chief.
He took a few steps away from his desk, and quickly glanced over at Ade. His mind was racing with how he would begin the conversation, and talk about his past. He rarely brought it up. Who he was, before the police force. The kind of things that he had done. Some of the innocent lives he had taken, when he couldn’t control the wolf. Missing persons and cold cases that he had been responsible for. Gently, he sighed, and his focus returned back to Ade. It was about time that they had that much needed conversation. He was a werewolf. Something that he had begun taking pride in. It was, after all apart of him.
