Thomas smiled a bit as he looked at an email from his wife. Another photo of their 16 week sonogram for their baby. Of course, Arielle didn’t find out the gender. She didn’t want to do that without Thomas being with her. Thomas set his phone down as he went back to editing and going over a few notes for a meeting tomorrow. He never thought that he would be able to settle down, get married or have a kid. Not with his background and his history. Of course, he did keep his history a secret from Elle.
Thing was, after he got back into contact with his brother, everything almost felt forced for the first little bit. Tom, of course, felt like a complete and total ass. Jackson was right, he got married without his brother there. Hell, he started dating a woman and proposed to her all without telling Jax. Needless to say, Thomas felt like a major dick and he really wasn’t too proud of what he did. When he left, he left to get away from their father for the most part, not Jackson. True, Jackson didn’t really help the situation, but he never wanted his brother to think that he left him. Thomas left their dad, not Jackson. He knew that it would take a lifetime to make up for what he did to his brother. Leaving him and then leaving him out of his life. The life that he left behind, it kind of followed him.
Whether it was the fact that he has a magazine full of wooden bullets and gun to match it in the glove compartment of his car, or the fact that he often kept holy water and other things in a box in his trunk, just in case he ever needed to deal with a little fucker. I suppose in a way, it’s a good thing that Thomas did keep these things in the back of his mind. Even though he tried to keep his wife safe, it never would have been able to work out the way that he wanted. Thomas wouldn’t have been allowed to have a happy life, or even a good one it seemed.
As he was driving home, he had a gut feeling something was wrong. If he learned anything from his life, it was that you shouldn’t ignore those gut feelings. Thomas frowned when he phoned Arielle and it went to voicemail. Yeah, something was wrong for sure. As he pulled into the driveway, he saw that the living room light was on, but he also saw that the door was open just a crack. Quickly, he moved to the glove box and grabbed the gun out of it, loading it with the magazine. Thomas quietly got out of the car and moved to the house, opening the door.
The blood on the walls was enough to make his heart pound. As he quietly made his way through the house, he prayed to God that the blood trail on the floor was his attackers and not Elle’s. The blood trail became more and more as he reached the top of the stairs. The bloody handprint on the wall was taunting him. When Thomas reached the nursery, he looked inside to see that it was untouched. His breath of relief was very brief as he turned to check the bedroom. It was then that he saw his wife’s body, laying in a pool of her own blood. The vampire was just finishing his meal when Thomas shot at him, tears running down his face. Shooting stunned the vampire just long enough to Thomas to grab the stake that was in the back of his pants and drive it through the monster’s heart. As the body toppled to the floor, Thomas let out a cry in pure agony.
“No no no,” he managed to get out as he picked up Arielle’s body and held it close to him. Her boody began to stain his clothes. Thomas let out a sob as he rocked her gently. This was his fault, he knew that if he told her, if he wasn’t so stupid to keep her in the dark then maybe she would have stood a chance. She was gone. His baby was gone. Everything he had worked so hard to protect and to keep in his life, was gone. Thomas didn’t know that he could feel this kind of pain again, he thought after losing his mother he wouldn’t have to feel this way ever again.
Scamp came running out of the bathroom, clearly where he had been locked in. His tailed wagged until he saw his owner and his mom. Slowly, the dog walked over and licked Elle’s hand, whining softly as he nudged Thomas’s arm. “I’m sorry… I’m sorry.” He kept saying over and over again as his entire body shook with sobs. If he came home on time, if he didn’t ignore her phone call earlier, maybe she wouldn’t have died. She may have stood a chance.
He could hear someone downstairs, probably a neighbour who heard a commotion. Honestly, he didn’t give a fuck who it was. Thomas, a usually strong man, was inconsolable and broken. With one arm around her and one hand on her stomach, he held her tight and let his tears flow.

hate me today, hate me tomorrow. hate me for all the things i didn't do for you. as if the prospect of a supernatural apocalypse wasn't enough jackson's personal life seemed to be collapsing on him as well. the revelation that thomas was not only in town, but had been married with a kid on the way was something that set him back a few days. as he tried to wrap his head around it, he consumed more beers than he normally did, sticking to the family house in his solidarity. as much as he wanted his overwhelming happiness for tommy to be the foremost emotion of his, it wasn't. he found himself damaged, even slightly betrayed, by the fact he'd been left out of the loop of the most important person in his life. issues surrounding kate continued to bombard him, but no more than usual. as if some cataclysm of bad luck was hovering over his head, elizabeth had randomly popped back into his life at just the wrong moment too. in essence, he would never be upset to see her but being remind of how much he broke her heart, in addition to his own, was not something he needed. oh right and he had a kid. what the hell was happening?
even when he'd managed to find a few moments of peace, he knew it wouldn't be longlived. a life of a hunter was not filled with serenity or happiness. instead, it was chaos with a few random commercial breaks interspersed throughout. it appeared, on this night, that the shit show that was his life was about to resume. and while it wouldn't be a direct affect to his own problems, it would certainly hit him hard.
if it wasn't for the police scanner that sat on the charger in the corner of the room, jackson would have been oblivious to problems at his brother's residence. despite the hour of the evening, he sat awake sipping at a beer as he went over some information on vampire lore. he was still determined to reverse kate's disease, even if it meant working alongside wiccan or demon to get the job done. the scanner buzzed a few times here and there...and break in here...a fender bender there...but nothing that really caught his attention. that is, not until he heard the dispatch repeat a very familiar address to him. he'd recognized it only becuase tommy and arielle had invited him over for dinner next week and had provided him with the location of their home.
without so much as a second thought, jax jumped up, knocking over his beer in the process. he didn't waste any time in getting into his car, calling tommy incessantly with no response. "dammit, tommy." he threw his phone in the backseat, letting his foot rest heavily on the gas pedal as he sped off to the addres he'd already stalked a few times. by the time he'd gotten there, the police had just arrived, getting out of their squads with weapons drawn. jax threw open his own door but not before grabbing a badge and his gun from the glove compartment. he jogged to the officers who tried to stop him, flashing his badge with a few hurried words. "agent carter, f.b.i. this one's a personal matter for me, boys. 'ppreciate it if you let me get in there first. i'll holler if i need backup." it appeared someone tried arguing with them but he left them with no choice.
noting the door was left open was not a good sign. jax pushed through, holding his gun up as he readied to fire it if neccessary. inside the chamber were wood bullets coated in silver and carved with devil's traps; something to stop anything he came across. his stomach was in knots, fearing what he would find around the corner. god if he lost tommy too...that would be it for him. the blood was no more welcoming than the open door, causing hurried footsteps on jax's part. "tommy?!" he all but screamed, searching every room he came across for his brother. nothing could prepare him for what he came across.
while his brother was covered in blood, jax could see it was not his own. instead, he laid eyes upon his brother as he cradled his wife, who was lifeless. his heart sunk, breathing constricting in his chest. jackson may not have known arielle but it hit him hard, knowing this was the one thing that made thomas happy: a family. and just like that, it was all gone. the guilt overwhelmed him, wishing he'd never met back up with his brother. this is why thomas kept everything away from him...tommy couldn't risk dragging jax's hunter lifestyle back home. look what happened...
"jesus christ..." he exclaimed at the site, turning away for a moment as he ran a hand roughly over his forehead. when he turned back to the scene, he simply watched tommy, tears threatening to break from their place. he was ready to break then and there, unsure of how to console his brother. what could he say that would be helpful? absolutely nothing. after a few moments of silence on his part, he stepped to his brother, trying to pull him up by the arm. "c'mon tommy. she's gone." and with that, anger flared up within him, remember the same image of death he'd seen when his mother died. there would be hell to pay for this but right now, he needed to be there for his brother. "tommy...fuckin' hell, tommy. i'm so god damn sorry..." as if his words were going to help. i died a little template by Margie @ Adoxography v2

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO ME I MADE MY MISTAKESGOT NOWHERE TO RUN THE NIGHT GOES ON AS I'M FADING AWAY;- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Everything seemed to move in slow motion.
From the moment he had gotten out of his car and ran up the stairs, it was all in slow motion. Thomas felt his heart shatter when he had seen the vampire covered in blood. In her blood. Something broke inside of him. This was his family, his wife and his kid who he would never get the chance to meet. He was supposed to have taken care of his family, protected them. God, how could this have happened to him? If he hadn’t stayed late at work, if he had phoned her when he left work, if he got home a little sooner… all of the what if’s danced in his head. What if he told her about what he was, about the creatures out there that could get in and kill the people he loved most.
Hearing Jackson’s scream was in the distance it seemed, he was able to hear a voice, but he was unable to process whose voice it was. Thomas was in a place of his own, he was willing that whatever gods were out there could hear him, that if he wished harder or even prayed hard enough, then just maybe Arielle would be okay. Maybe if he prayed to God, then maybe she would take in a breath again. He knew in his heart that it wouldn’t happen though, he knew deep down that she was gone. Thomas hadn’t let anyone see him this broken before, hell when he lost his mother, he was a kid. Tears ran down his face as he pressed his forehead to hers, she was still warm.
Scamp whined again, this time looking over at Jackson. He gave a pitiful tail wag before turning his attention back to his mamma. Thomas didn’t want to let her go, it was the last thing that he wanted to do. God he was so not ready for this, he was supposed to be preparing for a new baby and now he would be making funeral preparations. This wasn’t how his life was supposed to have gone. A part of him wanted to blame Jackson, he wanted to lay all the blame on his brother. How could he though? Jackson obviously didn’t kill Elle, and he sure as hell wouldn’t send someone to kill her either.
With tear filled eyes, he looked up at his brother. “She’s dead Jackson,” it didn’t feel real to say, he didn’t want it to feel real. God, he didn’t want it to be real. He wanted nothing more than to wake up from this nightmare, roll over and pull Arielle closer to him. A broken sob escaped his mouth as he held on tighter to her. He would never get to hold her again, never get to kiss her again. He’d never get to feel his baby move, he’d never be able to hold that baby.
Tom could feel Jackson tug on his arm, but he didn’t acknowledge it. If he went with Jax, then he would have to leave his wife. He knew she was gone, he knew she was dead. He just didn’t want to have to leave her. Thomas’s face was soaked from the tears, his lips salty as he licked them, trying to calm down, trying to get in a breath, “I’m so sorry baby.” He whispered softly to his wife’s body. His legs felt weak and he wasn’t sure he could stand up. Gently, he laid Arielle back on the floor. Scamp whined and went over to her, licking her hand, her face, really whatever he could lick at this point. Tom wiped his face as he stood up, his legs shaking a bit.
The blood all over the room, his blood soaked clothes. Thomas didn’t know what to do, he wanted to cry to break down. He just wanted this to all be over, he didn’t want any of this to be real. With a quick glance at his brother, he found himself wrapping Jackson into a hug. It was times like this, the real bad and really hard times, that he needed his brother. He needed Jackson right now more than anything else, “What the hell am I going to do?” he muttered softly, mostly to himself.
Thomas knew this much, there would be hell to pay. He wouldn’t stop, not until he rid this god damn city of the scum that were the vampire race. He wouldn’t rest until the coven that the vampire who killed Elle was dead.

hate me today, hate me tomorrow. hate me for all the things i didn't do for you. it was the very sight laid out before him that caused jackson to leave elizabeth. he feared that staying with her and living the 'good life' would lead him down this road. the idea of coming home to her in a pool of blood was far too much for him to bare, so he split. he left all his happiness and the prospect of a future behind him so that he could ultimately spare her life. in the grand scheme of things, jax couldn't blame thomas for trying out this life. if there was any guy deserving of it, it was him. that was all he wanted for tommy and kate - a bright future. instead, his sister was a vampire and now, his brother was a widower. of course, he couldn't help but let it circle back to him. in reality, he wanted to blame his father above all, for dragging them into hunting some twenty-something years ago. but jax blamed himself. he could have gotten out the moment he hit eighteen. instead, he stuck with it because he was good at it. look where it had landed him. look what it had done to the hawk family. tommy should have dropped off the grid and maybe, just maybe, he'd still have his normal life.
jackson had stopped believing in god a long time ago, for reasons such as this. he could overlook his mother's death, having been too young to truly understand the circumstances there. but watching all his friends and now his family die, he'd given up on the idea of a higher being. certainly there was no sane person watching over them. if there was anyone at all, surely they were laughing at the hawks as they struggled to keep their lives afloat.
when tommy finally addressed jackson's presence, he nearly lost it. he bit sharply into the side of his cheek, to the point he tasted blood, just so that he could avoid the emotional pain. he wore his emotions on his features, rubbing his forehead as he tried to make sense of the situation. "i know." he all but whispered, gaze darting between his brother's and the lifeless form. he had questions and above all, wanted vengeance for the situation but right now, it was a delicate time. "i'm sorry, tommy." it was all he could manage to say. he couldn't claim she was in a better place because he didn't believe in that afterlife bullshit. and it would have been just as out of place for him to go on about what a great woman she was...especially because he didn't know her.
"i know this ain't what you wanna hear right now...." he started off, trying to air on the side of caution. "...but the police are outside. we gotta be real careful here, tommy. they always look at the spouse first with this kinda thing..." his voice trailed off, hoping his brother got the drift. he wasn't sure if thomas had kept any of the weapons or fake i.d.s around in the years he was on hiatus but his entire house would be subject to a thorough investigation in the case of arielle's murder. "i bought us a few minutes but if you've got anything in here, you gotta get it out now." the last thing he needed was the police putting his brother in jail or poking around their person lives.
before he knew it, tommy had wrapped his arms around him. without question, jackson returned the brotherly embrace, holding onto him as tightly as he possibly could. "we'll make this right." he proclaimed, promising it to tommy and himself. this wasn't going to go unpunished. "we won't stop until we find the sonuva bitch who did this." if he owed anything to his younger brother, it was that. and too, to the woman he never had a chance to know.
