━ I CAN TASTE THE DANGER, BUT I DON'T WANNA RUN ━For years she was never able to get anywhere close to comfortable, living in a life that she never wanted. First, her father died and her sister disappeared and then she herself was kidnapped by a pack of supernaturals and finally watching her sister die. No one believed her, hell they made her feel like she imagined it all. And thus, spending almost a year in a rehab and seeing a therapist for that span of time, finally being free to live her life once more, she still hasn’t been able to be calm and comfortable. It all doesn’t seem real, it feels like she’s going to wake up and either find herself locked away in a room either with her sister and the vampires or at the rehab. Still, she knew that it was true and that it happened, and if people didn’t believe her then she would never tell anyone ever again. And thus, she was given the okay towards her health and was allowed to go back to the normality of her life. And with that, she packed her bags, moved to San Francisco for college, much to her Uncle’s dismay. He worried about her, she understood that, but she needed to move on and live her life. A life that had changed so dramatically since her family was ripped from under her small grasp. She’d live for them, to honor them.
But that no longer mattered, she didn’t care that no one believed her or would believe her, and thus kept her past to herself. She may be slightly popular in their little college clique of girls, but that didn’t mean any of them knew of her past. And they probably never will. While she trusted them, she didn’t trust them with that. She didn’t trust anyone with that, at least, not yet anyways. She was shaken from her thoughts of the past by the hand on her shoulder, one of her many friends had looked at her with a soft smile. Amelia, that was her name, one of the many girls that had dragged her along to the club that night. She was the youngest in the group, at least, for a little while longer. The rest of her group had already turned twenty-one, either recently or a little while ago, and she was the last that would be aging up. But for now, a fake id would get her by, not that it mattered. If the others were buying for her, she was just fine.
Entering the place that everyone had voted for, except for her, Phoebe looked around the Ravenous. It wasn’t that bad looking, and it wasn’t annoyingly loud either. There was one place that she was dragged along to that had music so loud that everyone was having a horrible time. But that was the difference between herself and others. Each saw different things different ways. During her time looking around, she was dragged towards the bar where her friends each ordered a drink. Of course, Phoebe was the driver for that night and instead was given a soda. While her friends went to go hang and party, Phoebe sat on the stool and watched the rest of the world around her. At least, until someone came up beside her.
‘Hey babe.’ slurred the words of a male as something touched her arm and a hand fell onto her thigh. Phoebe, disgusted and appalled, turned towards him and told him to fuck off. But he wasn’t having it, his hand moving up her thigh and towards the area that no one was allowed to touch. Thankfully for her, she wore jeans instead of a dress, but it was still degrading. She grabbed his hand and threw it back at him, but he was quick to growl in her face, hand grasping her arm and pulling her towards him.
“Get the fuck away from me.” she cried, but everyone was too drunk to notice this guy degrading a younger girl, her.

Beneath this happy face
Going to clubs wasn't something Makena often did, she was twenty one now so she could go into as many nightclubs and bars as she wanted. But she wasn't a big drinker, she never drank alcohol to simply get drunk. At a party she might have a few drinks, but never too much that she wouldn't remember her actions the next morning. Nor did she drink enough so that she would become reckless, a possible target for someone to take advantage of. Another reason she didn't drink to much, was because she was afraid. Not of those around her and what they might do. But because what she might do. It's known when you're drunk your not in full control of your actions, for her that was ten times worse than for any mortal. If Makena got drunk she was scared that she might end up using her abilities, for bad. She knew that she had a demon side, but she wasn't sure just how dominate that was. Her abilities weren't foreign to her, she knew what she could do there were some aspects of her powers she was yet to venture into, but she knew what they were. She was cautious that possibly her demonic side knew more about her abilities than she herself did. Makena tried to separate herself from that side, she preferred to think of herself as simply a Wiccan.
But that wasn't true, no matter how much she tried to convince herself. Inside her there was a darkness, she just had to hope her light was powerful enough to not be extinguished. The reason Makena was in the club wasn't because of her own choice, rather her grandparents. They had set her up with the grandson of their friends, saying he was a lovely guy et cetera. He had picked out the place to meet and to make her grandparents happily so she went along with it. Though when he arrived she was going to make sure he got the right message. She would apologise for her grandparents actions and explain that she wasn't looking for a relationship anytime soon. For now she was seated, waiting for the guys arrival before she could tell him. Makena didn't know when she'd be looking for a relationship, if at all in the near future. She was afraid of them, afraid of relationships because of her mother. Makena saw what the relationship her mother had with her father did to her. She fled home, got pregnant really young and when he left she turned into a drunk. Makena didn't want that to happen to her, she wasn't scared to end up like her mother however harsh that sounded. Tapping her fingers on the table Makena looked around casually. Tonight she wasn't even going to have one alcoholic drink, at the table was a water. As soon as the guy arrived she would explain everything and she wanted to head back home.
As she looked around her eyes moved towards the bar when she heard something. A young woman, around her age cursing at a heavily drunken man. Makena's eyebrows furrowed as she saw he held a grip on her, quickly she stood up from her table and walked towards the scene. "Excuse me" Makena said making the guy turn to look at her, before he could say anything she spoke again. "You're going to apologise, leave this woman alone because she's obviously not interested, head home and sober up" Makena advised him. If anyone else were to say this he'd probably shrug it off, but Makena had taken to using one of her abilities in this situation. Mind tapping abilities in play, she was basically in control of his mind. With no choice the man did as she was told and apologised before beginning to walk away. "And you'll never harass someone like that again" she said sternly, to which he nodded in reply before walking off. This ability wasn't one she liked to use very much but now was the right time to do so. Exhaling lightly and now relaxing a little she turned to face the girl, offering her a sympathetic smile."I'm Makena" she introduced trying to take the girl's mind off what had just happened. As Makena took a minute to look at her, she realised the girl looked familiar. "You're in the same college as me aren't you?" she asked, giving her a friendly smile.

━ I CAN TASTE THE DANGER, BUT I DON'T WANNA RUN ━There was no doubt that this man was far from drunk, he was so far gone that he didn’t know what he was doing. His conscious, while clouded, may or may not be affected tomorrow if he remembered the events of the previous night. But she would not be an event he would get to live and forget, no far from it. She tried to pull her arm from his grasp, tried to escape for her sanity and her humility. But it was no use. She was not strong enough. It was in that moment she wished she had gone with her friends, had been near them and far away from the bar and this man.
‘Excuse me. You’re going to apologize, leave this woman alone because she’s obviously not interest, head home, and sober up. And you’ll never harass someone like that again.’
The voice of an angel, at least an angel in this moment, filled her ears and saved her life. While Phoebe was shocked that the person listened so clearly and quickly let her go and disappeared outside without a word or a spit in the other person’s direction was beyond her. Maybe he wasn’t so drunk after all? With a huge sigh of relief, she turned to her savior with a smile, “Thank you.” she breathed out in relief as she looked at the woman. She recognized her, having seen her in a few of her classes and around the campus. Her name, while on the tip of her tongue, escaped her. She felt bad, but as the name was given to her she was thankful. “I’m Phoebe.” she said in her own form of introduction.
As the woman asked if they were in the same college, she nodded her head. “I believe we had a few of the same classes last semester as well. It’s nice to finally meet you.” she said with a smile. “And again, thank you for saving my ass, glad to know there is someone out there that has the heart to help someone out.” she said truthfully and thankfully.

Beneath this happy face
Makena was disappointed that one else had really noticed the drunk man's harassment. Fair enough the other people were busy doing their own things, but surely someone else had seen what was going on. Though Makena wasn't going to wait around and hope someone intervened and helped her. She instead stepped in, she couldn't just not do it. If she didn't and something happened she would be horrified with herself. She often will put herself at risk to help others, this had been one of those times. Except her life wasn't in much risk seeing as she was easily able to use her mind tapping. There were some people her ability could work on, those who's own ability was blocking out other. Though everyone else would be effected by her words, and she liked to use this skill for the good. Like she had done so moments ago. If the man hadn't been effected she would have had to refer to something else. Thankfully it didn't come to that. Through her words Makena had remained strong, but when the man walked off a relieved breath left her lips as she relaxed.
“Thank you. I’m Phoebe.”
"No need to thank me, guys like that... it's not right the way they try to treat people" she sighed, shaking her head. Makena hoped it was simply the booze that had caused his actions and harassing women wasn't something he did while sober. When Phoebe confirmed Makena's guess that they were in the same college she smiled friendly. "It's nice to meet you too, I've not talked to many students outside of school" The only times she'd spoke with fellow students was in class, or somewhere on the campus. Meeting them out and about hadn't happened much for some reason. "I always like to help people out, so hopefully then if I need help I'll have someone there" she smiled. Makena looked around the room briefly before bringing her eyes back to Phoebe. "Are you here with someone, some friends?" she asked. She hoped that Phoebe was, the idea of her heading home on her own later on was unnerving. Makena often worried about other more than herself. A nice attribute, but not the wisest. She figured she was fine that she could protect herself if needs be. Her eyes flickered to the door every now and then watching. She was still supposed to be here for a date, despite her not wanting one. So she was checking in case the guy came in, though thankfully he'd not yet arrived. If someone was stood up they'd be sad, Makena on the other hand would be happy if that happened tonight.
