Beneath this happy face
Thankfully for Makena the day had rolled around when she finished her classes at college early. She didn't really feel like hanging around the campus. Besides most people either had classes, where eating lunch or in their dorms. Makena didn't feel like doing any of that, so instead she headed home. Home was the house she lived in with her grandparents, something she had done for years. It was a decision she made herself. She had grown up living in her hands of her mother. Things seemed good for the most part, but that was back when Makena was too young to perceive the destruction around her. Then as she got older she noticed her mother drinking a lot, she spat verbal abuse at Makena. Eventually when she started to come into learning of the abilities she had, Makena knew she couldn't stay. Staying in the house with her mother would cause her stress, that stress she suspected would lead her to not learning to control her powers.
Something that she didn't want to happen, knowing it could be too risky. So she asked her grandparents if it would be okay that she lived with them. They immediately allowed her to do so and helped her move, that day had been quiet a sad one for Makena. She tried to gather her things when her mother was out, but she returned while Makena and her grandparents were packing. At that time in the day she was actually sober for once. She begged Makena to stay, that she didn't want to be alone. But Makena had heard it all before, how she could stop drinking, be a better mom and help her. Makena wasn't going to believe those words again after them having been lies so many times. So despite the pleads she left and settled in to her new home very easily. She hadn't been extremely close to her grandparents, due to the past her mother shared with them. Though she'd seen them on occasions and they quickly got along easily and became a close knit family. Makena reached her house in quick enough time after leaving the campus.
Placing the keys in the lock she twisted and unlocked the door before stepping inside. "I'm home" she announced, closing the door behind her. Walking to check the living room she then threw her bag on the couch when she saw it was empty. "Grandma... granddad, you here?" she questioned as she walked towards the kitchen. Once there she noticed a not on the table, she picked it up and after reading over it, learned her grandparents had gone out shopping for awhile. Nodding she shrugged her shoulders, she didn't mind having the house to herself for awhile. Grabbing a bottle of water from the cupboard she then made her way back to the living room. Just as she sat down there was a knock at the door. "Coming" she called, pushing herself off the couch and making her way over to the front door. Upon opening it she was greeted with an unfamiliar face. "Oh, hi" she said, offering a friendly smile.

━ DARLING I'M A NIGHTMARE, DRESSED LIKE A DAYDREAM ━Over three thousand years of living and yet Colette still felt as if she had just ventured out into the world, and in a way she had. She had stayed with her mother, a Wiccan among the Grand Coven, for quite some time during her immortal and eternal life. Only leaving to venture into the world and taste the riches each century and location had to offer the young girl. And of course, with each year, a new adventure rose from the ashes of her past, especially when she fell in love and bore a daughter in the dead man’s name. But through those years on her own, only her daughter by her side, she continued to create spells in order to help not only everyone but also help her mother bring her father back, to reunite his soul with his body which stayed close by Celeste being. Colette made a habit of returning home with a new spell each decade, and each would fail. Maybe that was why Colette stayed away longer, this time, residing somewhere far away from San Francisco where she picked up teaching normal mortal children in normal subjects. Colette loved children, but her daughter was the only child that she brought into the world so far, and she didn’t mind. Teaching at an elementary school was enough children to last Colette another lifetime.
But now, with a few new spells gracefully written within her little black book of spells, she decided it was time to return home. Perhaps for good? She wasn’t sure yet, but there was always a chance, especially with the job offer at the local elementary school that was confidentially located a little way down from the home of the Blackwood’s, her family. But who knew, Colette liked her current home but she knew that sooner or later it would be time to move on. Women that don’t age cause suspicion, something she learned first-hand when she first became a teacher.
And just a few days ago she had returned home to San Francisco. After years away, living on her own, she had returned. Maybe it was because she was rather lonely, or the fact that it was around the time span that she usually returned to see her mother and possibly her siblings, but here she was. While her reasons for returning were clear, a part of her still wondered why she had come back. But it didn’t matter, she was here and she was staying. For how long, she didn’t know.
It was during her time back that she had gotten in contact with a woman, one that had called to get help with her granddaughter. While Colette rarely taught magic anymore, she quickly agreed to meet with the young woman and see what she could do. The woman was thankful and quickly gave her address. And it was that day she decided to pay a visit. She wasn’t doing anything anyways, and there was no elementary school she could teach at during the summer, busying herself with magic was something she wouldn’t mind. She took a deep breath before the door and proceeded to knock.
‘Coming,’
The voice was quickly followed by the front door opening and she was met with a young girl. While Colette looked young herself, she surely had thoughts of years on this girl. The woman smiled at her, even though she was an unfamiliar face and Colette placed a smile delicate smile on her own. “Hello. You wouldn’t be Makena, would you?” she questioned softly, though she already knew she was.

Beneath this happy face
Staying in her dormitory wasn't something Makena did often. The majority of her time she lives with her grandparents, though there were times when she was simply too tired to return home that she opted for her dorm. She liked living with her grandparents, she also helped in looking after her grandfather who wasn't in the best condition. Her grandmother always told her if she wanted to permanently live in her dorm she could, that she would be fine taking care of her grandfather alone. But Makena didn't want that, she wanted to be there for her grandparent, just like they had been there for her. They had been the ones to help her with her abilities, when she asked to move in they wasted no time in opening their home to her. She'd not been close to them at all during the first years of her life, that was because of her mother. Her mother separated Makena from all other family, though she was happy to have found her grandparents. At first she'd been afraid that they might be bad people and that was why her mother felt, but it was quiet the opposite. Her grandparents were amazing people, her mother... was the bad one. Some people growing up never liked school, even after they graduated the thought of being in a class room could be unbearable. But that wasn't a feeling Makena shared, she liked learning.
Of course she always have her favourite subject when in high school, but she still endured the ones of less interest and never ditched. In high school she wasn't exactly seen as a popular girl, though she didn't really like the 'titles' given back then anyway. She was a girl everyone could kind of get along with, not belonging to one specific group of people. Being friends or at least acquaintances with most in her year, she dabbled in and out of every group. Though much like her classes, there were groups that she favoured. Makena wasn't exactly sure how her favouring in certain subjects had lead her to become a psychology student, but it was enjoying it. She loved learning about the working of it inner mind of others. Hoping it would also give her an insight into her own head. It was fascinating, to see how people worked, to see what caused people to tick and knowing how to manipulate and calm others down. All those workings Makena wouldn't really try to apply to real life until she actually became a psychologist. She didn't want to psychoanalysis others that didn't agree with it. Unfortunately sometimes it happened subconsciously, but she tried to keep from doing it most times. When there had been a knock at the door it surprised her. They didn't get many visitors to their house and she knew it wouldn't be her grandparents, they would have simply walked in.
“Hello. You wouldn’t be Makena, would you?”
"That's me" she smiled as she looked at the woman, bottle still in hand."You are?" she questioned, smile still present. "How do you know my name?" she asked, though not in a rude tone. Simply one of curiosity. She suspect maybe she got her name from the college, but why and how was a mystery.
