Beneath this happy face
Some people growing up never liked school, even after they graduated the thought of being in a class room could be unbearable. But that wasn't a feeling Makena shared, she liked learning. Of course she always have her favourite subject when in high school, but she still endured the ones of less interest and never ditched. In high school she wasn't exactly seen as a popular girl, though she didn't really like the 'titles' given back then anyway. She was a girl everyone could kind of get along with, not belonging to one specific group of people. Being friends or at least acquaintances with most in her year, she dabbled in and out of every group. Though much like her classes, there were groups that she favoured. Being a person that everyone liked in some way was rare, but Makena just carried that kind of aura about her. She always had a smile on her face and would always be there when needed. Amongst the acquaintances there were some true friends, friends that she would spend the majority of her time with, have sleepovers with etc. But it seemed that her happy, can do, friendly attitude wasn't enough to keep her friends around after a certain incident. When a fight broke out and Makena, with good intentions tried to stop it, she ended up getting involved. Mean, hurtful words were spat from an ex friend of hers. Makena didn't even register what going on until she saw what she was doing. She'd approached her friend, a mere mortal and put her hand against her chest.
Her electrokinesis in use, she sent an electric shock directly to the girl's heart and that caused cardiac arrest, also known as a heart attack. The normal, kind Makena would never have done such a thing, she never would hurt anyone and especially wouldn't use her powers against them. But she knew, despite wanting to believe it she knew it wasn't an accident, she had subconsciously meant to hurt her. The dark side, her demonic side had taken over and in that instant did something that wouldn't have ever crossed her mind normally. That was the day her so call friends began to become distant, which she could understand when she saw it from their point. But they didn't even give her a chance to explain, when she tried they just ignored her or told her to go away. Thankfully it had happened during the last year of school and thus she was quickly able to leave that behind her. Though unfortunately she was coming to university with now no friends, but she was adamant to make more. She wasn't a bad person, she knew that, she just had to try to control herself when she got angry. Makena's thoughts were interrupted and she came back to reality when she heard the bell, signalling class was over. She along with the other psychology students stood from their desks and grabbed their belongings.
Studying psychology was something Makena was deeply interested in, she wanted to help people, she always wanted to help people and psychology was the route she'd chosen to do so. Grabbing her few books she watched the students began to leave the class room and she noticed she was the last one. She began to walk towards the exit, before stopping at the door way. Biting her lower lip she spun on her heels to face towards where her professor's desk was and slowly walked closer. "Mr. Bennett?" her voice was light as she spoke and a polite smile came to her lips. She had yet to speak privately to her professor, seeing as the class was so big and she'd not really stayed back after the bell before. So her slightly shy self was coming to the surface unintentionally, despite that she still managed to maintain her smile. "I hope I'm not taking up your time, I was just wondering... is there anyway I could do something to get some extra credit?" she asked hopefully. "I just wanna make sure I get a good grade this semester. So I figured extra credit would help, just in case, I'm not doing so well on the paper work, of course I'm trying and..." Makena quickly paused. "I'm rambling now, sorry I'll stop" she laughed lightly. Rambling was something she tended to do when shy.
