Beneath this happy face
Becoming a psychology student was something Makena had wanted to do, since she realised she loved to help people. Whether it was helping a supernatural creature with their problems, or a mortal she didn't care. She was just always willing to lend a helping hand, someone people could reach out to. Though helping people seemed to be what you might call a passion of hers, there were two people she couldn't help. One was her mother, she wasn't even sure if anyone could help her at this point. Everything went down hill when her mother learned she was pregnant with Makena, at first she was thrilled. But when she told her then boyfriend, Makena's father, things fell apart. He didn't want to be a father, he was a demon, fathering wasn't in his nature. Makena wasn't sure when it started but her mother began to abuse the substance known as alcohol. It wasn't until she was old enough to understand that she recognised the problem. But she couldn't do anything about it, she simply had to endure the verbal abuse her mother threw at her.
At the end of the night when her mother finally fell asleep, Makena would always cover her in a blanket it stay warm. She loved her mother, despite the words that were spat at her. Yes Makena was an innocent child and didn't deserve to be treated that way due to her father's actions. But she was too kind, she forgave her mother every time. Eventually when she started to learn of her power, she knew having her mother around wasn't going to help when trying to gain control. So she chose to move in with her grandparents and from that day since she hadn't laid eyes on her mother. It was obvious to Makena her love wasn't enough to fix her mother's heart that had been crushed by her father. The second person she couldn't help, was herself. She couldn't rid herself of the demon side that she was born with. The side her mother often cursed her for having. It was the side her mother made Makena see as evil and thus why it was unwanted. All Makena can do is try to avoid that side of herself coming out, try to keep it dormant. Which meant not allowing her anger to take over, that's when things went wrong. The one and only time her demon, bad natured side came out was in the last year of high school.
She'd been mad so angry she'd used her powers with bad intent and caused her fellow student to have a heart attack. That day Makena saw what she was capable of and she never wanted to do such a thing again. She figured learning psychology could also help her get a grasp on that side of herself. Her classes had finished for today, but Makena still had work to do. So she headed to the library within the University, it wasn't completely full as some students would still be in class, but there were a good few people there. Exhaling lightly she looked around until she found an empty computer and made her way towards it. Makena was a highly intelligent girl which she new since high school. Though she didn't take her intelligence for granted, she always worked hard to prove she was worthy of her grades and that earned them fairly. Unfortunately her intelligence could be taken the wrong way, like she was a know it all. But getting the right answers and being praised by teachers was her subconscious way of earning approval from others, having never gotten any from her own mother. She wasn't trying to show off and she was aware that she didn't have all the answers, she was just trying her best and sometimes other's say that as too much.

━ NOTHING IS INFINITE, SHE LEARNED THAT THE HARD WAY ━Harper’s life was never easy; was never the life she should have been forced to live. Even before she was born, she was a bastard, a ward against those that she was supposed to be cherished by. Her parents, two different species brought together by love, were murdered and abused for the hearts that beat for each other. Because of their death and forced into the world of hell, Harper was left alone. Both species that she belonged to wanted nothing to do with a child of light and dark, and thus she was cast aside. But that didn’t mean there wasn’t a plan for her, oh no, she still had a family that loved her, even if they were mortal and didn’t understand the darkness that constantly fought for the surface that her light always claimed.
But none of that mattered, she had lived a nice life and had felt the love that she deserved a father and mother’s love. At least, she had until she used her powers. Hacking into the system was easier than some would think, especially with her abilities behind her. But things were different, each time she used her magic, the darkness within her tried to come through during her weak state. Maybe that was why she tried not to hack using her powers, instead using her hacking skills the mundane way. But it was what it was, and with the Operation Ghost being her new family and actually treating her nicely with both her light and darkness, she wasn’t one to complain. She actually didn’t mind using her hacking abilities to hack into the system, letting the darkness in was something that slowly disappeared with each day that she was surrounded by her new family.
But sometimes, she just needed to be a little mundane. Why she was on the college campus was beyond her, but yet there she was. Sometimes she liked to practice on little things, like cell phones and other computers. And maybe that was why she sat all by herself, laptop on her lap. The library in the university was easy game, and thus she found herself typing away, staring at the green background with golden symbols flying across the screen. Her eyes slowly glowed as she used her powers, the symbols slowly becoming decrypted as she looked at them and her fingers flew across the screen. If someone saw her now, they would be freaked, but she was too far gone that it didn’t matter. People never believed what they saw, especially when it was gone within a flash and they had no proof of the matter.

Beneath this happy face
In high school she wasn't exactly seen as a popular girl, though she didn't really like the 'titles' given back then anyway. She was a girl everyone could kind of get along with, not belonging to one specific group of people. Being friends or at least acquaintances with most in her year, she dabbled in and out of every group. Being a person that everyone liked in some way was rare, but Makena just carried that kind of aura about her. She always had a smile on her face and would always be there when needed. Amongst the acquaintances there were some true friends, friends that she would spend the majority of her time with, have sleepovers with etc. But it seemed that her happy, can do, friendly attitude wasn't enough to keep her friends around after the certain incident. Makena quickly shook her head to snap herself from her thoughts as she began to get to work. Her slender fingers, typed quickly on the keyboard, doing what she needed to do.
She remembered when she lived at home with her mother. Nine times out of ten she would given out to Makena for typing so 'loudly'. Despite Makena trying to explain quick equaled loud. Then again her mother always looked for a reason to argue, whether it was because of the booze or true disliking for her daughter, Makena wasn't sure. The main noise in the room at this time was of people typing, every now and then some slight whispers of chit chat. Makena exhaled as she finished typing, her eyes scanning the screen. Yet she was quickly distracted when she noticed someone entering the room. Out of boredom her eyes followed the girl as she sat and began typing. Makena was about to bring her eyes back to her work when she noticed something. The girl's eyes glowed and there was encryption's on her laptop screen. Immediately she came to assume the girl was hacking and not a mortal, that was usually what was going on when such stuff appeared on one's screen. Quickly hitting the save button on the computer she made her way over to the girl.
Makena placed her hand on the tip of the laptop. Abilities kicking in, she used her electrokinesis to absorb the current flow through the laptop. Thus ceasing any activity until she removed her touch. "What are you doing?" she asked, in a hushed tone at the girl. "You shouldn't be hacking in a public place where anyone can see you..." she explained. "You shouldn't be hacking at all actually" she corrected herself, her previous statement making it sound like it was okay to hack if not in public. "You could get in trouble and I saw your eyes glow... to some people they might be a little more freaked out than I am" Makena wasn't freaked out because she too could do some 'odd things'. Like what she was doing right now for example. Though all her words were because she didn't want this girl getting in trouble. People like them had enough problems just for being a certain species, she didn't want this girl gaining more trouble for hacking.
