Really he had no reason to be nervous, but my god did he ever feel it. He had already done the not so fun part of introducing his family to the girl he was with. Of course, his mother already loved Clare to pieces and again, vocally told him that she was finally a girl worth meeting her. Mike was a tad embarrassed to hear that from his mother, but he knew she meant well. Michael didn’t exactly have a great track record with women, hell the last one cheated on him and then played victim when he broke up with her. His father was just as excited to meet her and naturally, Colin practically tackled her into a bear hug. Needless to say, the nervousness faded and just turned into embarrassment.
For the first time in a long time, Mike felt at home in London again. There was a sense of peace and calming for him. Mike was home and he felt awful that he had been gone for so long. This was where he belonged, he belonged with his family and he shouldn’t’ve shut them out for as long as he did. He needed time to grieve and time to mourn his loss, he took what time he needed away from his family. Mike was ready to be back with them again. There was a small part of him that wanted to move home, to stay with the people he loved the most. Then he had this other part of him that wanted to be with Clare and live in America. He loved both countries, but he would never be sure which would be home to him.
Dinner was wonderful, he had missed his mother’s cooking that was for sure. While Colin and Richard talked with Clare, Mike moved to the kitchen to help his mother clean up the dinner mess. She seemed to be happy that she had more than just her and Matthew to feed. Mike picked up a dish towel and started drying and putting away. He bit his lip before he looked down at his rather short mother.
“I’m going to take her to meet Tony tonight,” he smiled a little sadly, “I mean… I think he’d like that.” Olivia stopped what she was doing, dried off her hands and hugged her son close to her. Mike hugged her back tightly. She agreed that he should do that too, which was why she called Colin in to help finish up with drying. Colin of course sighed in a playful way and ruffled Mike’s hair. He sat next to Clare, “Come with me yeah? I want to show you something.” He smiled a bit as he stood up, offering her his hand.
Grabbing his jacket and helping Clare into hers, he opened the front door and started walking down the street, his hand in hers. He looked down at her briefly, “They all really like you,” he smiled softly, “I do apologize for Colin, he’s well… Colin.” He chuckled a bit as he led her as they walked. Mike felt incredibly nervous again. He also wondered if this was creepy, no no it wasn’t. He had to mentally reassure himself that this was what he wanted to do. Hell, he wanted to tell Tony about her the moment he met her. Who would’ve thought that accidentally falling asleep on a girl’s hoodie would have led to this, to a relationship with a beautiful girl? Maybe it would even lead to him being able to love again, to really open his heart up and let someone in.
As he stopped outside the cemetery gates, Mike found himself freeze on the spot. He hadn’t been back to see his twin since the funeral. Mike bit his lip as he looked down at Clare, “There’s uh… there’s someone I want you to meet.” He smiled faintly as he opened the gates and led her into it. The place lingered with death it seemed, but it was also peaceful. It was a place where a lot of people got their closure with someone’s death. Mike knew exactly where to go to find where his brother was laid to rest. Stopping in front of the headstone that read;
Anthony Fredrik Oliver April 1, 1993 – July 6, 2014 Beloved Son, Brother and Friend Forever Missed, Forever Loved.
Taking in a small breath, he offered a small smile to Clare and he got on his knees in front of the stone, “Hey Tony, I uh… I want you to meet someone,” his voice broke a little bit, “This is Clare and she’s kind of really important to me.” He couldn’t even hide the tears that were threatening to fall from his eyes, “And Clare, this is Tony.”

loving can heal* loving can mend your soul and it's the only thing that i know. we keep this love in a photograph. we made these memories for ourselves where our eyes are never closing hearts are never broken time's forever frozen still,, Clare only had to go through the whole meet the family scenario once before. After all, she and her ex had been together for a couple years - she'd met Cole's family, and honestly had gotten rather attached. So when Mike brought up meeting his family it wasn't totally unfamiliar territory to her. She generally knew how to say all the right things and keep conversation flowing, knew how to be polite. But the thought of meeting his family still had her on edge most of their flight to London. The pressure with the situation was hard for her to pinpoint, but she really, really wanted them to like her. She wanted to have their approval, and part of Clare knew it was because of how much she had grown to care about Mike. Meeting his family scared the hell out of her because he scared the hell out of her in a way. He'd crept into her heart that she had planned to keep on lockdown. And all she wanted was for everything to go well.It turned out she had nothing to fear when it came to his family, though. That was made clear by everything from tackled bear hugs to words of approval from Mike's mother that made Clare's cheeks turn red. Still, she was grinning from ear to ear during the entirety of her first meeting with the Oliver family. They made her feel welcome instantly and conversation flowed so easily between all of them. There was such a warmth that radiated throughout the home, throughout the family, and Clare was happy spending time with them. Spending time with all of them took her mind off of her other anxieties surrounding the London trip - that being her dad's wedding. But that was a whole different set of nerves and a whole different story that, for that evening at least, she would not dwell on. For now she was content laughing and joking with Mike and his family, listening to their stories and eating some pretty phenomenal food. She was brought out of a conversation with Colin and Richard when Mike returned to the dining room, and Clare greeted him with a warm smile when he sat beside her. She blinked and nodded when he told her to come with him, taking his hand and getting to her feet. "Of course," she said lightly, smiling a bit and saying a quick goodbye to those still gathered at the table before she followed Mike. She found herself absentmindedly lacing her fingers with his as they walked along the chilly London streets, her smile growing in relief when he said they liked her. Still she let out a nervous laugh. "I really like all of them, too - they had some good stories about you." Her grin turned teasing as she gave him a playful nudge. "But seriously, they're all so sweet. Don't apologize at all, Colin ... He gives good hugs?" She laughed a bit. "And your mom is probably one of the sweetest people I've ever met. You've got a great family." Her head tilted slightly to the side as their walk continued, Clare taking in the sights until their path brought them to a cemetery. She frowned softly with concern as Mike froze, her expression shifting to one of curiosity when he said there was someone he wanted her to meet. Then she understood, her heart clenching a bit in her chest. Clare remembered their first official date, when Mike brought her to the festival that showed his first short film. The story about the twin brothers ... She chewed softly on her lip as she followed Mike through the cemetery, her eyes landing on the headstone they stopped at. Clare's breath caught in her throat as she read the inscription, part of her unable to believe he trusted her enough to bring her here, to open up this way. Very gently she squeezed his hand before Mike knelt in front of the stone, a faint smile tugging at her lips as he spoke. She could hear the faintest quiver in his voice that alerted her to the tears. Clare bit her lip as she sat down beside him, the sight of his tears breaking her heart, gently wrapping an arm around his shoulders and sort of holding him close to her, her eyes returning to the stone. "Hi Tony," she said softly. "Your brother's kind of really important to me, too." Her tone was somewhat lighter, but there was a somberness to it. She didn't know what to say, what she could say. Her head rested against Mike's shoulder as she gently rubbed his arm. "I wish I could've met you along with the rest of the Oliver clan. I'm sure you know you're very missed." She lifted her head to look at Mike, offering him a small smile. "But I'll do my best to keep this one out of trouble down here," she said before her expression softened, her next words meant for Mike as she studied his face, her arm still around him. "Are you okay?" she asked softly. Part of her realized that a loss like this might be impossible to ever really be "okay" with. But maybe him making it to the grave site was progressed. At least, she hoped so. Clare gently kissed his cheek. "Thank you for bringing me to meet him," she said, hesitating before she continued. "Can ... can you tell me about him?"tagged: MICHAEL OLIVER // lyrics: ed sheeran // notes: YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT I'M CRYING AGH V.V TEMPLATE BY ELIZA @ SP & ADOXOGRAPHY
