i sit here locked inside a hell that only you and i can live today was a rough day. but to be fair, all days for piper ashmore were. once, she'd been on top of the world, wanting for nothing. she had her family[well, most of them anyway], power, love, and a city at her fingertips. she was on top of the world and with that greed, came arrogance. there was nothing that could take that from her...or so she thought. since the years of her reign alongside her brothers, piper hadn't seen a single good day. sure, there were days that were better than others, but she wouldn't call any of them good. those that came close to reaching that status, one of pleasantry instead of pain, she'd convinced herself weren't real...merely illusions.
piper had had one of those pleasant days recently. a random party had led her to an enjoyable conversation with a handsome guy, one who had made a name for himself in the spotlight. as well known as he was, she was sure she'd never see him again; women were probably throwing themselves at him left and right. still, her mind had been on wyatt caldwell the last few days, particularly because she saw something within him that she recognized in her own gaze. she couldn't place it, mostly because she was in denial.
while that night was one she wished didn't have to end because of the enjoyment she got from it, it had left her in a more fragile state. the attraction she'd felt toward the tattooed man was similar to the true feelings she'd had when she first started dating xander. it was genuine and true, not solely lust. he was handsome as hell, she'd admit, but there was something else that had drawn her to him. having felt that all she could do now was feel guilty and sad...depressed even. the vampire was confused and angry and with no where to turn, she turned to violence in the form of feeding. feeding had always been her scapegoat when she was in pain.
from off the street she'd managed to snatch a woman with resting bitch face, one who'd given her a judgmental look as she passed her. before long, she was dragging her by her hair at the back of her neck, back to her home. well, the home she shared.
"shut up." she snarled at the woman, staring deep into her eyes. but as she continued to snivel and cry and try to call for help, it was only confirmation that piper's compulsion had indeed been stripped from her. but she'd known that...she'd known that for years now. just as she knew that her lust for blood had been amplified one hundred times a normal vampire's. it was the new council's way of saying 'fuck you' to her. for whatever reason they released her, they still wanted her to fuck up. that way, at least, they'd have a legitimate reason to kill her...for dropping bodies in excess and breaking their laws.
without warning, she sunk her teeth into the mortal's neck, piercing the jugular vein and feeding greedily. instinct told her to keep going but somehow, she'd managed to pull away before the woman completely expired. instead, she was woozy from the sudden blood loss, stumbling in her attempts to not only get away but stay concious. "aww, poor baby." piper mocked the woman, dragging her near dead weight up the stoop as she arrived at the home. she wasn't even sure she called it that. she didn't consider it her home, despite the fact she had her own room here.
the door was open, which was truly no surprise. as soon as she stepped within the four walls, she kicked the door closed behind her, calling to the brother she was particularly closest to. "i picked up dinner on my way home." piper stated casually, though loud enough to allow her voice to echo through the halls. outwardly she appeared her usually cocky self but she was fighting the urge to cry. in all honesty, she couldn't handle her own shit anymore and she just needed her brother. she just needed someone.

your tears don't fall they crash around me it would seem as though the issues never ceased to pile up. it was one thing after another, each driving an emotional stake through cain's heart. normally, the male was quite good at hiding his true self, masking those pesky feelings. for the most part, they had faded with his soul. however, cain still possessed the ability to feel, in most cases. his anger was untouched, as it should be. that sole emotion was what drove the male, it fueled the fire burning so brightly inside of him. the vampire council would pay for their treachery, cain would personally see to their suffering. everything would be ripped away from them, titles stripped from their very hands. those they claimed as children would be murdered in cold blood before them. it would bring cain no greater pleasure than to force both atticus and artemis to watch, just as they did his dear sister. piper had suffered great lengths, a tragedy within itself. her pain would not go unanswered for. the death of her child, his nephew, would not go unpunished.
the council viewed his family as monsters, but was that not what they were? vampires. the mere mention of the word was enough to send shivers up any mortal's spine, to force them into a night filled with terror. why hide their true nature? it was in their nature to hunt, just as any savage beast. they were pushed by instinct. the aurics spent so much time struggling to preserve the vampire species, to make sure their bloodlines remained pure. they were all walking hypocrites. denying a vampire of their basic need was the same as placing them within a cage. sooner or later, that instinct would come back full force. not only did cain wish to see the council's imprisonment, the male also craved something far greater. power. he wanted the world at his very fingertips. he wanted to call the shots. it was only a matter of time, his plans were already fitting together quite nicely.
standing before the massive fireplace, cain merely gazed into the flames. he lost so much over the years, he wasn't prepared to let anything else go. selling his soul seemed like a small price to pay in order to achieve his greatest desires. besides, it was a mutual trade, giving both involved parties an advantage. not only was cain given his former abilities back, but the male was also gifted with far greater power than before. all he had to do was toss a few souls the devil's way every now and again, not that he particularly minded. he held a low regard for the lives of others, especially when they were of no use to him. perhaps that's why they aurics were so threatened by cain and his family. unlike the council, he didn't need all the formalities. what good were trials? certainly artemis and atticus had the last say anyways, so why prolong the inevitable? it was all a big show of power.
pursing his lips, cain left the fire's warmth, making his way over to a table on the opposite end of the room. he began reaching for a glass, pausing halfway before eyeing the bottle of whiskey. tilting his head slightly, he changed course, grabbing hold of the bottle, neglecting to pour himself a mere glass. slouching into one of the cushioned chairs, cain indulged in the whiskey, drinking it straight from the bottle without a care. there was no soothing his problems, no making them go away. he could handle the aurics, that wasn't the case. no, there was something much more upsetting in the mixture. lacey, the simple girl that worked for him had presented cain with unsettling news as of late. of course, he denied her words, claiming that she was a liar. it wasn't possible... how could there be a tiny infant growing within her stomach? how could it belong to cain? how the hell was he supposed to be a father?
father... the word was a joke. he grew up without one, and look where he ended up? for whatever reason, his siblings were treated equally in the eyes of their father, whereas cain suffered from lack of attention. he was given beatings, lashes, on top of the hateful words. for the most part, he struggled in silence with his father's growing hatred. as a small child, all he wanted was his old man's approval, to make him proud just as wesley did. cain never did achieve that goal. he wasn't father material, the man was a killer. plain and simple. he wasn't about to bring a child into the world. it wouldn't be fair... how was he supposed to love something, when he had no leading example? cain would be damned if he treated any child of his like he was treated.
after downing most of the bottle, he lifted himself from the chair with a slight stagger at the sound of piper's voice. perhaps a glass might have been a good idea afterall. with a slight smirk pulling at the corner of his mouth, cain leaned against the doorway, eyes flicking from the bleeding woman to piper. "how thoughtful of you." stretching out his hand, cain shook the bottles remains slightly, liquid splashing against the glass inside. "drink? looks like you could use one." pausing for a moment, the male eventually knelt before the mystery woman, hand gently brushing a lock of hair from her face. he could have compelled her, though he rather enjoyed a good struggle. with a crooked grin spreading across his face, cain stood once again, facing piper. "something troubling you, dear sister?" despite her collected appearance, cain grew to know the difference.

i sit here locked inside a hell that only you and i can live in a general sense, piper loved her entire family but that didn’t mean she liked them all. in her damaged heart, she still harbored a familiar love for wesley but outwardly, she’d grown to hate him. he betrayed not only her but their entire family, leaving them to rot in the torturous hands of the council. while he could have never known what pain they would endure, he did know that their actions were damaging and bound to get them in some pretty serious trouble. so he left, leaving the three younger ashmores to deal with their own shit. in the grand scheme of things, he couldn’t be blamed for what happened to them…but that didn’t mean the youngest child wouldn’t blame him for every single thing. she did, honestly. even if he hadn’t been there to prevent the council’s takeover, he could have swooped in to save the day like he had so many times before. fuck wesley.
damian was not to be forgotten in the mix. he was a near carbon copy of cain, wanting to follow in big brother’s dark footsteps. but he was immature and impulsive, something that piper had chastised him for on many occasions. again, she loved him all the same, but he lacked the finesse of cain and sooner or later, she knew he was going to get them all in worse trouble than they were already in. it was for that reason she chose to distance herself from him lately, focusing on her vengeful plan with cain. cain was her rock and the only solidarity in her life. she was lost and damaged in ways that were indescribable but at the very least, he helped to ground her slightly. his comfort and care kept that sliver of sanity and humanity within her, preventing her from completely going off the rails…though she’d threatened to many times. the only thing that had begun to bother her was his supposed interest in a certain blonde employee of his. personally, she found the woman unworthy of his attention.
piper was entirely unaware of her brother’s action in the matter of retribution. he introduced her to only the tip of the iceberg, leaving her in the dark about his demon side. the woman had recognized something darker, even eviler, within her favorite brother but she said nothing. he was still the same protective and caring man she’d always known and it was her blind spot that was being taken advantage of. frankly, she probably wouldn’t even have cared if he spoke of the full truth to her. she was blindsided by her need for blood and revenge, casting out any reasonable thoughts she would have otherwise had. it was probably for the best piper was unaware of his news; it would have set her off at the thought of a child.
“i know. i’m such a peach.” piper stated simply with a smug look, erring on the side of sarcasm. one glance over her brother, in combination with the nearly empty bottle in his hand, had suggested that he’d had his fair share of the alcohol. “oh how kind of you. is there any left? looks like you’ve been hitting it pretty hard.” the vampire retorted, finally throwing in an acceptance of a drink with a nod. “one?” she snorted. “i think i could use some catching up to you.” yes, downing half a bottle of whiskey certainly sounded like a good plan to her.
piper’s gaze fell from cain’s face as he questioned her, taking a sharp breath. immediately her mind wandered to wyatt and the happy feelings he had instilled within her. she wanted to see more of him and of course, to express her feelings about him to cain. she knew better though, instead keeping the wistful thoughts to herself. cain didn’t need to know about him. shit, she didn’t even need to voice the notion of him, fearing if she did, she’d jinx the situation. instead, her mind fluttered to a far more unpleasant topic. “the aurics are here.” piper blurted out, laying the statement out like something sharp in the air. her voice held a mixture of fear and pain, trying to conceal neither. “i saw her. fucking artemis.” her eyes flashed a haunting color, anger surfacing at the thought. “i want her dead, cain.” she left it at that, waiting to talk more of their plan.

your tears don't fall they crash around me piper was the only remaining sibling that could cain could tolerate, aside from damian. his younger brother's ambitions were quite evident, laced in the way he struggled to imitate the man. it was flattering, but dangerous all the same. damian was reckless, not unlike cain, only his actions were often left in a mess. it wasn't seldom that the other two were forced to clean up after him, which had slightly grown into an annoyance. then again, cain couldn't help but find humor in the situation. there was no driving away damian's careless behavior, and that was to be admire. as for piper, well, the girl had always stayed close. she was just as determined to end the aurics as cain, though their intentions may have differed in the least bit. what cain truly craved was power, to regain his original title, all while bringing down artemis and atticus. their reign was coming to an end, a tragedy waiting to happen. oh, cain would make damn sure that they all suffered a far greater fate than the ashmores.
smirking at her words, cain handed the bottle over. "better get drinking then, i'm afraid i've been at it all night." it would take some time for piper to catch up, if that wasn't already obvious. the man had a fairly good buzz going, though he managed to keep himself together. the troubles that were truly plaguing his mind were not of importance to piper, nor did he particularly feel like letting that secret out. fatherhood was not something that he expected, or wanted for that matter. his own father was a monster, an abusive force. perhaps cain would be doomed to the same nature, abandoning the child. he wasn't about to make another feel the way he did, neglected and alone. certainly not his child. his child... did he even consider it to be his? was cain still lingering in denial? after so many years, he had believed himself to be incapable of producing children. so, why should things be any different now? besides, in no way did he deserve such a pleasant thing. if it were cain's, the child had no chance. for how could someone so evil raise something so innocent and pure?
as the silence settled, cain broke away from his current thoughts. ignoring the bleeding woman on their floor, he merely stepped back into the living area. after grabbing another bottle of bourbon from the counter, he took a seat on one of the chairs. that same devilish smirk only managed to grow at his sister's voice, eyes flicking toward her. "ah, and how is our old friend?" despite piper's anger, cain seemed rather unmoved by the topic. perhaps it was every other issue floating within his mind, or the alcohol running through his blood. regardless, he appeared calm and collected. "all in good time, piper. i can assure you, the auric's will fall soon enough." opening the bottle in his hands, cain took a generous mouthful before snickering lightly, pointing toward the stranger's body laying on the ground. "while you've been out drowning in our past, i've been creating an army." his tone may have hinted at harshness, but honestly, the guy was simply overwhelmed.
he didn't entirely mean to spill his plans, but the alcohol seemed to challenge that. "like i said, all in good time." cain was one of the most impatient individuals, but even he knew when to wait for the opportune moment to strike. each and every scheme he concocted was carefully planned out. the man knew what he was doing, revenge was his field of expertise. "i know that your hatred burns bright, but we will not be killing artemis." glancing over, cain held her stare before rising to a stand, slowly closing in the space between them. "i did not make that deal so she could simply die." orbs darkened at his words, a cold expression washing over his features. "artemis is going to live a long life, i will personally see to that. each and every moment she feels any shred of hope, i will be there to rip it away. they will all spend an eternity in suffering. that, i promise you." lip curling, cain broke eye contact, turning his back to piper as he stepped before the fire place.
anger was never something so easily contained, not when it came to cain. his impulsive nature often got the better of him, especially when emotions were involved. as much as he'd like to believe that he no longer possessed them, it would seem as though the devil wasn't so kind. with his muscles tensing, cain forcefully threw the bottle of whiskey into the fire. standing his ground, the male watched as flames rose in a slight burst. how could his mind be so easily consumed by something that should mean nothing? lacey had a pull on the man, one that he couldn't quite shake. despite having been tortured for years, forced to endure unimaginable pain, that baby was the one thing that bothered him most.
