I turned my back on everything I search for half-remembered dreams Pulling me down with you Above my head, they're circling The vultures want what's left of me I sacrificed it all and I will fight
Night was descending upon the city. The sunset, paved the skies underneath a mantle of vivid orange and purple coloration. It was safe to be active. Unlike most vampires, Benjamin lacked enchanted items to help protect him from the ruthless sunlight. If he had been exposed, then he’d slowly burn in agonizing pain. That, was nothing that he wanted to deal with. So, he stayed indoors with the blinds closed. He had gotten into the habit of sleeping during the daylight hours, although he would periodically wake up and grow restless. He was living in the shadows, and staying away from trouble. He walked down the paved sidewalk. The streetlights started to shine in the growing darkness. Benjamin, was perfectly at home in the darkness. Of late, his life had been slow. Nothing had come up. His last check had been given to him through the mail. That was how he lived. He was hired, to do expendable tasks. He had gotten a reputation of doing things once darkness had settled on the city. Just last month, he had killed an entire street gang. They threatened the peacefulness of a neighborhood, mainly his district in the city. It was quite easy. Mortals, proved to have little resolve. Besides, the police weren’t going to do anything about the problem.
That was apart of Benjamin’s character. He did what he believed to be right. Sure, he was a hired killer, but he believed in morals. Of course, he was very black and white. The lines between good and evil existed in his eyes. A line, once crossed that was hard to stop him from doing his job. He didn’t use regular weapons. He relied on his speed, and strength to overcome his targets. However, he did carry a danger on him at all points. He wasn’t a stranger to guns either. In fact, he kept a few around his apartment. They were mortal weapons, but it never hurt to be prepared whatsoever.
As he walked down the sidewalk, something caught his attention. A man crossed his path and followed a women into an alleyway. This meant trouble. Benjamin could feel it in the core of his body. It was weird and strange for someone to be followed into an alley. Crime rates tended to increase at night. Even more, when the war between the supernatural community was evident. Then the scream caused him to bounce into action. He stood behind the alley of the museum. The man flashed a gun, blue eyes focused on the hooded man. The women was backed against the alley wall. “Please, I don’t have anything on me.” The man cocked his head to the side. “You have something. Give me your purse.” Benjamin didn’t hesitate to attack the man. With inhuman speed, he shoved the hooded man onto the ground. Another scream from the women. Ben turned around, and confronted the women. “Easy. I’m here to help.” She still screamed, and shivered. Mortals, obviously, she was afraid and confused. Benjamin’s words didn’t help one bit.
The hooded man began to stand, catching his momentum. His eyes shined a bright gold coloration. “Well, what do we have here?” He cocked his head, again to the side. Benjamin’s eyes locked with the women. Calmly he spoke to her, “Miss, get out of here. Run, far away from here.” Benjamin was calm with the women. She simply nodded her head in agreement, clutching her purse closet to her chest. As she escaped, the vampire turned his eyes onto the renegade lycan. He remained stationary, and the lycan charged at him. With lightening reflexes, Ben avoided the lycan’s attack. Quickly turning around as he avoided the attack, his elbow collided with the backside of the lycan’s head. Knocking him back down to the ground. Benjamin stood motionless. His voice filled with determination. “I can keep this going all night.”

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -ITS BEEN A LONG DAY WITHOUT YOU MY FRIENDAND I'LL TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT WHEN I SEE YOU AGAIN;- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Histories, Joel found, were generally sad things to read and learn about. Between the wars, the betrayal and the death, finding good in history was often hard to find. When the good was found however, it was often brushed over. Take his time in the war for example, he mostly remembered the death all around him and it was only every now and then that he remembered Benny. And sadly, Benny’s memory was tainted with his death. It was tainted with the fact that he lost his best friend to a hunter only recently. It was hard for Joel to remember the happy times that he and his friend once shared. To remember the nights spend at a pub a few miles behind front lines. Remembering the beautiful dame he danced with only after his friend egged him on to do so. There were so many memories that he never thought he could look happily back on.
As much as he hated working late especially with how pregnant his Adrianna was, he didn’t do it very often. Mostly out of fear that something would happen or god forbid she go into early labour. Joel hadn’t ever thought that he would be a father, and yet somehow he had created a child with a beautiful woman. Of course, the child wasn’t something they had done on purpose. A long time ago it seemed, he and his wife were trying for a baby before he was shipped off to the war. Joel often wondered if his wife was with child when he killed her. The memory was so fresh in his mind, maybe that was why he was terrified to be a father, to show that he could be gentle. He rubbed his eyes as he flicked off the computer screen, his eyes started to go cross it seemed by the end of the night. Joel bid the night guard a goodbye before he left the museum for the night.
With his bag slung over his shoulder, Joel picked up what sounded like fighting off in the distance. Normally, he would have simply called an emergency line to tell them of the disturbance before he went on his way. A different voice caught his ear though and he found himself going towards the voices. A terrified woman came running from an alleyway and Joel sped up, not quite using his vampire speed, but going faster than the average human.
Had his heart still been beating, it would have stopped.
It couldn’t be, could it? He looked enough lie Benny, hell he sounded like Benny, but Benny was dead. Or at least that’s what Joel thought. Holy fuck, Joel thought to himself, it’s him. He never thought that he would get to see his best friend again, not in this lifetime at least. There was so much he wanted to tell him, to say to the only man who’d been his only family for so long. True, Ben and Joel didn’t exactly get along when he first turned him into a vampire, but after they grew to be each other’s family. Joel found himself slowly walking over to Ben, taking the chance to talk with him while the Lycan was down and out. Had his heart still beat, it would have been pounding in his chest.
“Benny?” Joel asked, hope filled his voice. He wanted it more than anything to be his best friend, to be his brother. He bit his lip as he looked at the man again, “It’s me… it’s Joel.” He truly hoped that he didn’t sound like to an idiot to someone who may just be a complete stranger in passing.

Hell hath no hold on a warrior’s mind See how the snow has made each of us blind Vibrant colors spray from new dead Staining the earth such a beautiful red
Red The battle goes On and on Make your stand
His memories were fragmented. Something that Ivann had stolen during the aftermath of the war. He had fought for his country, and still continued to serve it. In truth, he had undergone many different aliases. He was a mercenary, his loyalty was only bonded to the money that he received. After all, he was a creature of the night now. He was bound to coming out after sunset. His entire life had been flipped upside down. Being a vampire, changed everything. He still fought for all the right reasons. After all, good trumped evil most days. Even with his change, he had adapted surprisingly well. He didn’t have many friends, because getting close to people posed a danger. Benjamin, took the laws into his own hand. He had little respect to the incompetent police force. He would willingly go into a burning building to save someone. Again, he was doing exactly that. Protecting that women from a rouge lycan. He had dealt with their kind before. Savage beasts, every last one of them. His brown eyes narrowed on the lycan, as he tried to stand back up after Ben’s attack.
Then, something familiar caught his attention. He heard his name being called, and he turned around to find himself being faced with another person. Something felt different with this man. Something that he couldn’t describe. Automatically, he nodded at the stranger, before asking the question. “Who are you? How do you know my name, friend?” Benjamin’s memories of the wartime tended to be scattered. He couldn’t remember his sire, or the relationships that he had built over time. It seemed like much of his judgment had been scattered onto the wind. It didn’t help that he couldn’t remember. However, if someone knew him-- then the better for himself. Maybe this stranger, could help him recall who he was.
Then the attack came rather quickly, Benjamin didn’t even turn around or flinch. Instead, he took his left elbow, and plowed right into the gut of the lycan. The beast doubled over and recoiled. His form turned, and his eyes narrowed on the rouge wolf. “I don’t have time to play games, pal. Do yourself a favor, and get out of here.” After doubling over, the brute stood up, and backed away. Face with the threat of two vampires, instead of one. Of course, Benjamin didn’t know that his counterpart was a vampire himself. He smirked at the wolf, and the lycan slowly backed away. After a second of thinking, he retreated down the ally way. His mind began racing, as he turned around to face the other person.
Now he had to deal with another person. He scratched his head, and approached the unknown man. He stood motionless, and made little conversation until he spoke once more. “Forgive me, friend. My memory is a tad bit foggy.” It least he was honest about the situation. He couldn’t remember much, after so much of it had been probed away. Ivann had gotten into his head, and turned Benjamin into a killing machine. The one thing that he didn’t want to be. He was tried of killing, but would do so if it came down to it. Something was to be said about tonight, perhaps Benjamin was getting off lucky enough to find someone who knew him, and his name. Perhaps, just perhaps he could shed some light on the situation. He smirked at the unknown man.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -ITS BEEN A LONG DAY WITHOUT YOU MY FRIENDAND I'LL TELL YOU ALL ABOUT IT WHEN I SEE YOU AGAIN;- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Memories that once seemed so distance in the mind of Joel seemed to have come flooding back to him. The memories of grabbing a drink in the local bar while they awaited their next set of orders were ones that Joel feared he would look back on and feel nothing but sadness and yet, they were ones that brought him pure joy and happiness. They were the ones that brought him back the fond memories of his best friend and the only person he had ever turned into a vampire. Joel hated this immortal life, which was why he didn’t want to inflict it on anyone else if he could help it. He didn’t want to be the reason that he took someone’s life away, or the reason that they weren’t given the choice.
Benny was different for him. Joel had been alone for so long that when he saw an opportunity to maybe have a companion for his long and lonely years to come. Women would come and go, but the bond of friendship and brotherhood wouldn’t leave and he felt that he had that with Benny. There was something different about him though. While he could feel that this was Benny, he could also feel there was something off about him. It wasn’t the guy who he had known all those years ago and right now, Joel felt like he had seen a ghost. This man, this man standing in front of him was supposed to be dead. Pulled out of his thoughts as the man spoke and then scared off a Lycan, he looked over at him. Joel’s blue eyes scanned the man up and down. It had to be him.
“I… we fought in the war together Ben.” He said after a long moment. There were times when Joel was utterly speechless, like when he found out Adrianna was pregnant or when he found out that Benjamin had been killed at the hands of a hunter. It was so surreal for him, it had been a long few weeks without him. And it didn’t help that currently the exhibit in the museum was on wartime heroes, where both Benjamin and Joel were featured. It was like he could still show Adrianna what his best friend was like, what the man who shaped Joel was like. Really, Benny was the closest thing he had to family in lifetime for a lone time. And now, well now Joel still wanted to know if that brotherly bond was still there. Or maybe this was just a coincidence, not that he believed in those mind you.
Shaking his head, mostly so he wouldn’t stare, Joel looked to the ground and then back at the man. “You really have no idea who I am?” he frowned, blinking a bit. For some reason, that stung. They had a sire bond, at least Joel thought that they did. He leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest as he stared at the man, “I’m uh… Joel Grayson, I was Captain Grayson in the second World War.” He knew that this guy was a vampire; that much was for sure. Joel scratched the back of his neck, “We fought together.” Like that would help. They separated for a few years after the war had ended. Joel went to America and Benny went lord only knows where. If he was a human, he would have felt like headed and dizzy, he probably would have needed to sit down.
“Uh… you died a few months ago man,” he rubbed his face, “I got word from a mutual friend… hunters tracked you down.” God it stung to talk about it. Joel was truly alone when Benny died. He hadn’t met Adrianna yet, he was still new to town. There was so much that he needed to wrap his head around, mostly he needed to try to wrap his head around this.
“And if I sound like a crazy person and you aren’t Benjamin Richardson, then just ignore my rambling and what probably sounds like an insane story.”

Will you carry me down the aisle that final day With your tears and bones shaking from the weight? When you lower me down beneath that sky of grey Let the rain fall down and wash away your pain
Apart of Benjamin knew these words to be true. He had fought in the war, and was an honored hero. Apparently, both men had lived through the second World War. Quietly, he listened to Joel talked. Ben couldn’t deny it, something existed between both me. He felt a pull to Joel. His eyes widened slightly, as he mentioned the hunters. He shook his head, a slight of hand being dealt. “Hunters… They didn’t kill me, obviously. I was taken hostage, and tortured for months. They turned me into a killing machine… then, I escaped… got away from that place. Far away.” He hesitated for a moment, “Joel, you are… familiar to me… if your words are truth. Then maybe we reentered into each other’s lives for a reason.” If Joel knew about Benjamin’s past, then maybe this was a sign, that both men needed each other. They had been friends during the war, and his memories of combating the Nazi’s, and fighting to liberate Germany. Berlin, was the last place that he remembered, before everything went black. This was good, it meant that perhaps Joel could explain his past to him. He needed to know more, and was desperate to figure things out, in the correct manner.
“I…ah, everything before the battle of Berlin goes black. I can’t remember much.” He scratched his head, and sighed. Truth be told, he wanted to remember-- everything. Joel, was the key to his sorted past. “I can’t remember my past, who I was before I escaped.” He was willing to put as much distance between himself and Ivann. Russia was a former memory, the had experimented on him. He did so many horrible things. Even now, he took on the job as a mercenary. Life was come a go. He was living off the grid, and living from hired paycheck to hired paycheck. He even hated taking the life of innocent people, but he needed to feed. Blood was in short demand, and he couldn’t go out in the daylight. Like most vampires, he slept during the day. Coming out during the night.
He stood motionless, staring at the ground as he continued to speak. “I don’t know anything, anymore. I’m just picking up the pieces of my life…” It was evident in his voice, he had tried everything to remain honest. He was still a killer though, and even more lethal as a vampire. He was a killer, but tried to walk on the lawful side. He was still a good man at heart. He still cared about others, and put others before himself. He tried hard, to always do the right thing. Which included fending off that rouge lycan from taking an innocent life. He knew better, but struggled between doing the right thing. He followed his heart, and that was the thing that got him into plenty of trouble. After all, he had been strong enough to enlist in the army. He had fought to defend an entire nation. However, things weren’t black and white, anymore. Things weren’t blurry anymore, he could tell the difference. He wanted to make a difference in the world. Truth be told, more existed to the senseless killing.
His eyes glanced into Joel. “Perhaps, we should continued this conversation away from this place.” He began walking, heading toward the sidewalk. Already, the sun was fading underneath a mantle of darkness, which coated the skies in purple, gold, and orange. Streetlights turned on, and cars passed on the busy road. He could tell that the world had changed, or perhaps he had changed. He would always try to put himself in someone else’s shoes. Patiently, he waited for Joel to join him. After all, they were friends? Right? Causally he laughed. “So, Joel? Should I call you captain?” Bullets, and war hadn’t taken away his descent sense of humor. After all, he wasn’t a replica of himself.
