- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -FOR ONE SO SMALL YOU SEEM SO STRONGMY ARMS WILL HOLD YOU KEEP YOU SAFE AND WARM;- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Labour was not only incredibly painful, but it was messy.
Lacey knew what to sort of expect going into having a baby, but she didn’t expect the mess. She had been laying down, trying to sleep a little bit when her water broke. It wasn’t just a light little trickle, oh no. To be completely honest, Lacey felt like she had wet herself after a long night of drinking and her brain hadn’t woken her up to notify her that she had to pee. Never mind the fact that Lacey had been labouring for a good twelve hours before anything even happened. What started as light cramping turned into awful pains that moved around to her back, hips and thighs. Lacey was beyond tired by the time she had finally come to the hospital, of course when she got there she had learned that while she was in intense pain, her progress and dilation wasn’t moving fast or at all.
After she had been admitted, changed into a hospital gown and had a quick ultra sound done, she was back in her room. The pain had become unbearable, but she knew what she wanted. So many times she had been in the hospital and been heavily medicated that she didn’t want to be when she brought a baby into the world. She had been told that she should take the epidural, but she kept declining. She didn’t want to be confined to her bed either, for Lacey found that walking around helped her contractions. Surprisingly enough, having Cain by her side seemed to help. She had someone to lean on when the pain became over whelming for her. She had someone who, even though they hated each other in the beginning, she had someone who was truly there for her.
Things didn’t stay calm for long though. Thanks to a powerful contraction that caused Lacey to scream out in pain, Cain was asked to leave the room due to how he reacted towards the doctor. Lacey tried to talk the doctors back into letting him in, but they were genuinely afraid of Cain. Things just got harder for Lacey. She had no support system. She hadn’t called her mother, mostly because she didn’t want her there for the delivery. Her mother, as much as she loved her, she didn’t support Lacey’s pregnancy or her relationship with Cain.
Dried off and back into clean sheets, this time with some sort of pad below her, the pain was worse than before. A blanket over her legs and a doctor checking her, she breathed out. “I feel like I need to push,” she said through almost grit teeth. There was a pressure that she needed relieved. The doctor put his hand on her lower abdomen, gently pressing while his other hand was a place that Lacey didn’t want another man’s hand.
“Not yet Lacey, you’re not there yet.” He told her as he got back up, covering her again. He did tell a nurse to bring Cain back in and to bring in a blanket and the scale. He left the room, but nurses still moved about, setting up stirrups for her legs to go up in, moving the baby’s heart monitor around a little bit and moving the bed up and into a better position for Lacey to start pushing in. Her heart felt lighter as she saw Cain, she needed him here. She needed him to be one of the first people to meet their baby, to see their baby and to hold their baby.
“Maybe this time, be nice to the people who are trying to help me?” she asked with a bit of a laugh as she looked up at Cain. Her doctor came back into the room and a nurse pulled the blanket carefully off of Lacey as the doctor sat on a stool at the end of her bed. He looked up at Lacey, giving her the go ahead to push, but gently. Breathing through her nose, she bared down and pushed. Her instincts kicked in, and she felt like no one else was in the room. She let her body do most of the work, but taking breaks in between. Sweat began to bead on her forehead, her chest and arms clammy.
Moments passed, and soon the minutes turned into hours. Lacey was growing tired, but each word of encouragement that she got gave her a little more energy. Breathing through everything was no longer an option. God, she could feel everything and none of it felt very damn good. Lacey never wanted to have another child, not after this pain. Even though she knew it would be worth it, she never wanted to have to do this again. The doctor kept coaching her, telling her what to do.
“Alright Lacey, you’re really close. Head’s almost out!” the doctor told her as she fell back against the pillows. She closed her eyes for a moment, breathing. Panting. God, she wanted this to be over. She opened her eyes, nodding as she grabbed onto the rails of the bed and pulling herself up. A small, almost animal noise, escaped her mouth as she pushed again. Lacey didn’t let herself take a break, grunting and letting out a scream as she felt more fluids gush out. She opened her eyes as she saw what was causing the pain, all of the hard work. Tears freely flowed out of her eyes as she saw the tiny baby. “Congratulations, it’s a girl!” The doctor said as the small baby was placed on her chest.
“Hi! Oh my god! You’re so pretty.” Lacey didn’t focus on anything else except for that little baby girl. The one that had the eyes of her father, just looking around at the room. The baby didn’t cry, she just wanted to know what was going on it seemed. Lacey let her head fall back against the pillow as she helped dry and clean the baby off. She was completely oblivious to whatever the doctor was still doing between her legs.
“We have a daughter Cain,” she smiled brightly up at Cain brightly and for the first time, she felt nothing but love for the man that she at one point hated.

sweet as can be baby of mine becoming a father was not something can had wanted, nor expected. to be quite honest, the man thought it impossible. over the centuries there were plenty of flings and various sexual encounters, yet, none of which lead to a child. that alone posed a rather troubling question: why now? what sort of torturous fate had cain been thrown into? aside from family, the halfbreed possessed no emotional attachment. he lacked weakness, which came in handy due to the ashmore's current situation. however, that seemed to change when lacey stepped into his life. the woman brought along the one thing that could tear cain apart entirely, the one threat that could be used against him: love. despite how hard he struggled to push away the feelings, there was no denying just how strongly he cared for her. lacey capella was capable of exposing a different side of cain, one that he desperately tried to hide.
the fact that he lived up to his monstrous name was no secret. creatures of the supernatural world knew better than to cross him, or any of the ashmore siblings. and those who failed to learn such a thing... well, let's just say that they were no longer around. cain knew who he was, and perhaps it was that realization which scared him the most. julius, his own father, seemed to loath the kid's very existence. compared to wesley, cain was nothing more than a disappointment. no matter how hard he struggled to gain the man's approval, he would always been viewed as insignificant. the beatings and humiliation that cain endured, it was enough to spark a burning hatred for the man he called father. deep within his heart, cain knew that he would avoid treating his own child with such neglect, he would never abandon something so helpless... still, what if the man was incapable of showing that mercy, even when it came to his own blood?
the whole experience was one that cain had trouble handling. seeing lacey in the bed, her angelic voice crying out in pain... it caused something within cain to snap. the man admired her stubbornness when it came to the epidural, yet it also angered him. surely there was something they could do to ease her pain? holding his tongue, cain stood protectively by her side, hands gently helping lacey as she paced around the room. "easy, love." a light smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth, though it faded with the heart-wrenching feel of her scream. immediately, his eyes flicked toward the doctor. "i believe it's time you start doing your job, and get that thing out of her." leaving lacey's side momentarily, cain closed the space between himself and the doctor. "i can assure you, the pain she's enduring will be nothing in comparison to your own suffering, if you fail to help her. i will personally see to that." his words were a clear threat, one that managed to frighten the doctor more than anything.
the only reason that cain refrained from ripping out the heart's of every nurse and doctor in that room was because of lacey. so, attempting to be a good little halfbreed, he didn't fight back when they asked him to leave the room. instead, cain pushed through the door, immediately knocking over a cart of medical supplies. the various objects flew across the hall as he took a seat, head leaning against the wall. his violent actions caused a few surrounding individuals to cast weary gazes, though he ignored them. where many would see anger as a weakness, cain viewed it as more of a strength. his aggressive nature gave means to do what was needed: to survive. the ashmore family had suffered greatly over the centuries, tortured and ripped apart from each other. that pain was a constant reminder, fueling the fire burning beneath his core. oh, the aurics would surely pay for their treachery, but it wouldn't be done by impulsive action. despite his past methods, cain was planning something far more brutal, an eternity of suffrage. after all, death would be too kind.
after a short amount of time, the doors opened once again, a hesitant voice signalling that cain could re-enter. pausing briefly, the male struggled to collect himself. inhaling a deep breath, he could feel his lungs closing in as he laid eyes back upon lacey. without paying attention to the hospital staff, cain stood beside the woman he had become so smitten with. a gentle hand brushed the hair from her face, while offering the other to hold her own. "i have yet to master the art of being nice." smirking lightly, his eyes eventually drifted toward the doctor, fear gripping at his chest. those hours to follow... never before had cain felt so helpless. being tortured by the aurics was certainly nothing in comparison to watching lacey in such pain. taking a step back, he watched as she gripped at bed rails, his heart sinking with each whimper heard. the man was a powerful creature, a mixture of two deadly species. yet, there was absolutely nothing he could.
it happened so fast, voices blurring together as the lights grew brighter. almost fearfully, cain's gaze trailed to the doctor, air immediately escaping his lungs. there were no words, nothing that could express the emotions he was being exposed to. taking a step back momentarily, cain placed a small amount of distance between himself and lacey, eyes still glued to the infant laying on her chest. how could something so pure, so innocent, come from someone so wicked? as she began to speak, tears rolled down the man's cheeks. despite trying, there was no holding back the emotions breaking through his surface. slowly, cain took a step toward the two, head tilting to the side as he gazed at the miracle they had created. he wasn't worthy, a mere peasant in the presence of a little princess.
feeling slightly weak, cain sat in the chair beside lacey's bed, a smile spreading across his face as he noticed the child opening her eyes. "she looks like you... so full of light..." glancing to lacey for a moment, his smile shifted into a smirk. "oh, but she has the devil in her eyes. i'm afraid that's all me." looking back toward the child, his chest began to tighten.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -FOR ONE SO SMALL YOU SEEM SO STRONGMY ARMS WILL HOLD YOU KEEP YOU SAFE AND WARM;- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Lacey didn’t know what love was, not until the first moment she heard her baby’s heartbeat. And then that love grew stronger when she felt the baby move within her for the first time. Every time her baby made progress growing inside of her, she felt more love for this person she hadn’t even met. And as the day came closer for her to meet the tiny baby that she had been growing for nine months, she had never felt such excitement. Of course, there were always the questions of what would happen after the birth? Would Cain leave her? Would her cancer come back? All of those things were things that she had pushed to the back of her mind and especially in the moment where she laid her eyes on that tiny baby.
“She’s so beautiful,” Lacey whispered in awe as she kept her eyes on the baby. She felt like she was going to burst with the happiness she felt. There were few moments that she had felt this happy in her life, but without a doubt in her mind, this was the happiest.
Everyone else in the room seemed to disappear for a moment, it was just her and her new daughter. Without so much as the door opening, there was another person in the room. Tears of pure joy rolled down her face as her eyes landed on the tiny baby. This was true, unconditional love. A mother’s love and it was a love that was so pure. Her moment was cut short as the tiny crying infant was taken away to be weighed and other things. Lacey finally felt the exhaustion hit her like a sack of bricks. Her hips had become numb from being held up for so long and her stomach was still incredibly sore. A nurse had come and moved her bed so that she was sitting up and within minutes, she had a baby in her arms, wrapped safely and securely in a blanket.
“You are so loved little one,” she said softly, “I’ll always keep you safe, I promise.” While she still felt sweaty and rather gross, she was glowing. the two new parents were alone in the room. The baby girl was sleeping, or at least she was trying to. The baby felt so delicate in her hands, so fragile. The tine life was one that she was going to be protecting for as long as Lacey lived, whether it was a few months or a few years, she would keep that baby safe from any and all harm. This baby was a precious little miracle, at least that was how it felt to Lacey. She had been told that she would never be able to have children. Hell, Lacey didn’t think she’d live long enough to have a real relationship, let alone get pregnant. “We never talked about names you know,” she said quietly so that she didn’t wake the sleeping baby. Lacey hadn’t thought much about it, so it was partially her fault. Lacey had been expecting the baby to be a boy, so even if she had thought of names, they were all for boys. Her fingers softly stroked the babe’s back and her hair, she had light brown hair, but it was entirely possible it would fade to Lacey’s blonde color, or it would stay the same as her fathers. Oh she would be a beautiful baby and Lacey hoped and prayed that she would be able to watch her daughter grow into a beautiful young woman. Life was so precious to her that she didn’t take it for granted. Lacey looked back up a Cain.
“Would you like to hold your daughter?” she asked softly as her eyes met his before she looked back down at the little miracle they had created that was currently sleeping soundly in her arms. The baby cooed softly in her sleep, squirming in the blanket, almost as if she was trying to get comfortable, “I think she needs to meet her father,” she smiled softly. Everything she once felt or Cain, the hatred and the dread, was replacing itself. Love was in the room, and it was a strong feeling. It was hard to ignore and in that moment, Lacey felt like she had a family.
